I never knew that, but does this mean that American's never said "Hello" prior to this?
What was the word used for greeting before hand Huh

i figured it was a hoax, hello has got to be an old word, older than the telephone at least.

besides, Graham Bell's girlfriend is UGLY. If he said anything when he picked up the phone it would most likely be "RALPH"
