I do not have an opinion on PPCoin because I do not know enough about it. I am going to read the PPCoin paper and relevant threads now. While I am doing that I would like you to post why you do or do not like PPCoin. Opinions do not need to be backed up but please back up anything that you believe is a fact. Thank you.

Well, for starters, it's not just a copy of Bitcoin this time(not a full one at least). I've seen and participated in every single alt-coin so far, but all of them were blatant copies of Bitcoin with minor changes to protocol(such as difficulty).
PPcoin aims for 0% energy use, though that is not entirely true as the coins need to be mined for a while(hybrid design), but then you needn't mine to generate blocks. Proof of Stake is something very interesting imho.

You should read through my posts, not all of them are trolling. But then again we need to define the word troll first eh?

Last I checked, it wasn't a requirement to always post quality content. Sometimes my definition of quality is my personal views which I am entitled to.

PPcoin aims for 0% energy use, though that is not entirely true as the coins need to be mined for a while(hybrid design), but then you needn't mine to generate blocks. Proof of Stake is something very interesting imho.

If it truly aims for 0% energy use then the only way to achieve this is to not have it at all.... even running a non-mining client requires energy use...  The aim is for energy efficiency, security not needing the levels of energy that say BTC needs, not 0 energy.  If their papers say something about 0% energy use then, it's a typo at best and libelous scam at worst.

As to why you should/should not use PPC it's really up to whether you believe in the goals of the project and whether or not you are willing to take the risks of investing in a new cryptocurrency.

The hard limit is 2 billion, it in fact does NOT have any limit to coins(yet or not ever).

The inflation model of ppcoin is designed to be comparable to Bitcoin's, although without the hard limit of Bitcoin's 21M (the 2 billion max value is only a safety limit and may not be approached).

I estimate 2012 ppcoin production to be around 15 million (less than half year), 2013 ppcoin production to be around 10-20 million as well. Annual ppcoin production should be less and less based on Moore's Law.

See our FAQ section on 'Is there a cap on total money supply like Bitcoin's 21 million?' for more detailed explanation: https://github.com/ppcoin/ppcoin/wiki/FAQ

As of now I find it a sloppy mess of code and ideas.  The website looks juvenile, there isn't a downloadable GUI on site, and why....dear-god-why would you release something that took you more then a week of development time without being able to present it normal users? Its like developing an awesome sports car without a body.  I'm glad developers have their own currency, if that is the aim, PPC and Namecoin have a lot in common.  It'll never have bitcoin success or more without catering to the users though.

If your normal user self can't figure out how to use PPC, then you're not ready for it yet.  Same went for bitcoin when it started. It's not about catering to the dumb users right now. Would you like us to hold your hand?

What is bitcoin success?

The fact that you think it's all a 'sloppy mess of code and ideas' makes me think you don't deserve to know how to use it. Just because there's no pretty GUI means it's sloppy? Sounds to me like you don't know how to work shit.

PPCoin price seems to have nearly doubled since I put the 1000 coins I generated on a lark up for sale... Making it more profitable to mine than bitcoin for the same time period. Of course I was only interested in the bit coins I traded the ppcoins for but thats entirely another issue.

I use it because I think it has a future, just as much as NMC and LTC have right now. Proof of stake is at least something completely different from the original Bitcoin client, rather than just a copy. We all should assume and accept that everything in cryptocurrency is experimental.

So, are you going to believe in something, or not?

The community is what drives each coin. Pick a community or communities and support.

There will never be only one.

Edit: At the moment, NMC is trading at 0.00492 BTC. When's the last time ANYONE used a namecoin? OTOH, I have traded more PPC than NMC and made more BTC. To me, it's NMC that should be worth 0.00031300 BTC.

lol. Settle down.  No one is pee-peeing on ppcoin.  It took helpful users to get me running with PPC the other day.  It was easy enough, but it shouldn't require so much involvement for a finished product.  Not sure why I had to get the GUI wallet link from a forum instead of the website.

Maybe this is a clash of marketers vs. programmers, but if you can't develop a program that is useable by average people, don't expect it to catch on.(Bitcoin is still learning this)  With that said, I like some of the ideas that PPCoin has, although, it feels to me like a test run for changes in Litecoin.  Only time and trust will tell.  I came into bitcoin and litecoin in December of 2011, so I'm not sure what to expect out of a "new" currency.  I didn't have much time to monkey with PPC when it came out a month or so ago.  Tried installing. Didn't work.  Didn't care.  Seen it survived a few weeks, so I thought I'd throw some support at it.
