is this idea possible or is someone already making it? A wallet that would allow sending of messages through your bitcoin wallet to another wallet. The bitcoin wallet in itself would be another coin, kind of message/wallet coin?

I cannot understand what do you mean by 'sending messages through your bitcoin wallet to another wallet.' Clarify further, please. additions like that should be separate from bitcoin, it can be done by signing your message with address or smth
This feature is for verification purpose on whether you are the one who owns/made a certain address/message or not.

My knowledge of how bitcoin works is slightly limited.. those that might hold or send messages could be rewarded somehow in a network (wallet), if that network that transferred messages was also a wallet that holds bitcoins, then the wallet would also be some sort of encrypted communication system/device. or not?

What you are saying still does not make any sense. If you are looking for a p2p messaging system based on bitcoin, then check out bitmessage.

What do you mean by the bold text? Still I cannot comprehend to what you have just added. The only thing that I *could* understand is the encrypted comm. system. A wallet can sign a message from the owner, but I think that is different from what you are saying here. If you're talking about a wallet that could be a courier of messages, then that function isn't available on any wallet yet, I think, and wouldn't be in the near future as the need for it isn't there.

will have a look. I guess in short what i'm saying is. If you could SMS through your bitcoin wallet to another bitcoin wallet, then that would be cool. If you had to make another network to make that happen, then that new network in itself would be another coin?

Oh I get it now, a short-messaging scheme it seems. It can be done on the block chain via transactions and labeling it with something, but for direct messaging, I think not. That could still be implemented within the blockchain or through sidechains, but again, the need for it isn't present.

It seems interesting in a future tense kind of way. With privacy issues and so on.

If you mean you want to send some message with the transaction then i guess that feature already exists..I am sure about blockchain not sure about other wallets though..In blockchain when sending a payment you can write a "public note" and the message will be shown on blockchain to all who knows that address...I am not sure if there is a way to send private messages with transactions

That doesn't exist yet, and I'm quite sure that that feature could be implemented in the blockchain or off-blockchain (though that means additional data in the blockchain.)

Bitcoin Wallet that would allow messaging to another wallet?? i dont think that this is really needed, from my point of view and IMHO, signing messaging is more than enought for what bitcoin is, all those things should be separate from bitcoin, sometimes more features does not mean that it will be better or maybe yes and im wrong lol xD

It would be good to have this feature at least within a wallet. I'm selling a lot of old vintage things online, the idea that some wallets could be trusted and others not, might be good or not? would encourage more use by sellers burnt by the ebay/paypal system, with shipping and so on.

This is perfect, there needs to be some kind of trust placed within a transaction. Problem is with the anonymity of bitcoin, you may not get some kind of trust established with whoever who are purchasing goods from other than just asking around in forums etc. Some form of contact with the transaction is somewhat a perfect solution.

I know you are asking about Bitcoin wallets, but since it has been shown above that this is not a feature embedded into Bitcoin, I would like to add this:
I wrote a bit on Opalcoin in the past, and the features surrounding that coin are pretty incredible. One of the embedded features into the core client is messaging between wallets, and IIRC they are also incorporating a file share system under the same concept as the messaging. I'm not sure how hypothetical your question is, but if this is a feature you need, maybe you could look into it.

if bitcoin might be re-built, it would include some sort of messaging/feedback system within a wallet, that would not bloat the blockchain?
