I am trying to download the wallet at bitcoin(dot)org and I keep getting a wallet error. I deleted all the files and did a total uninstall. I'm starting from scratch can anyone tell me step by step to get this thing installed? Also I was considering just downloading multibit. Is this a good alternative if I cant get bitcoin-qt to work? also if I use multibit will I be able to start bitcoin mining? Please please please help.... thank you in advance.

If you're going to mine on a pool you don't need the bitcoin client installed at all.
You just need to provide the pool with one address where they should send your earnings.

Thanx guys. I'm getting an error that won't even let me open the wallet something about error loading blinded.dat everytime I delete program and reinstall I get same error. The very first time I downloaded it I got about 78% done (loading the blocks?) then it just stopped working and I've been getting this error ever since!

Probably blkindex.dat, it is located in the datadir, depending on your Operating System:
Quote
  • Windows     %APPDATA%\Bitcoin\
    (XP) C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Bitcoin\
    (Vista, 7) C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\
  • Linux    $HOME/.bitcoin/
    /home/username/.bitcoin/
  • Mac OSX    $HOME/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/
    /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/

But if you delete blkindex.dat, it will start to download the blockchain again. So that could take a long time...
If you don't have bitcoins in the client yet, you could give multibit a try. It still needs to download blockchain data but
should be much faster.
