Okay, so I'm still new to Bitcoin, haven't even been using it a full week yet.  I have noticed, however, that the value of 1 BTC has dropped nearly a full dollar in the last couple days.  Is this normal or is that a bad sign?

It mostly happened today.

Looks like it is climbing back up so just hold on to those coins, or buy some more while they are cheap.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on getting rid of any.  I kind of wish I'd sold some a couple days ago so I'd be able to buy back a small amount more.  I just wanted to know if this is something that happens normally or whether it's something new.

This is the fourth drop of this magnitude in the past 75 days.

Thanks for the link. And yeah, doesn't particularly surprise me. I'd love to be able to see the Volume of BTC trades and such over the last week or two.  I wasn't really paying too much attention, but I don't recall it being at 88000 BTC.

The Bitcoin price drop is a result of many many things.
A major Bitcoin bank shut down, a report that said 70% of bitcoins were owned by hoarders (study was flawed but still makes no difference if Bitcoins are seen as a investment)
and The coming Bitcoin block reward halving has people on edge.

There is also Christmas coming up and new ASIC that people are investing in.

(I am a 1MB block supporter who thinks all users should be using Full-Node clients)
Avoid the XT shills, they only want to destroy bitcoin, their hubris and greed will destroy us.

Christmas is an aspect. I've bought one gift already with bitcoin and have plans for a few more.

I've only been involved in Bitcoins for a year now, but I bought about 1/3 of last years presents with BTC. The difficulty was quite literally 1/3 of what it is today.

Yeah I used to make like 1.3 btc a day with my quad 7970 rig, now I only make .8 :/. What seems to be driving up the difficulty?

Thanks for all the replies as well as the links.  Very interesting.

So, Tuesday/Wednesday would be a good time to sell on Mt Gox generally?
