• Cryptographically secured web of trust between online identities? Check.
• Non-government issued e-currencies? Check. (but, we've got even better one now)
• Best solution to any problem(in this case, alien invasion) determined by online betting? W00t.
• Traditional institutions/governments crashed in early 21st century cause of obsolescence? Check.

I don't know how I missed this one. I thought I'd read all the Baen free library titles. (FYI, I've completed at least two series that I started with the free library, so it's doing it's job quite well.)
