Best guess would be that it was to clear stocks of the BM1384 chip ahead of the S7 release using the BM1385 Chip, although we now know that BM1384  will continue in the R1?

However I think the timescales on the S7 release might have become a bit compressed with the S7 being released a little early to head off the SP50 and BM.com B-Eleven?

It was really meant for data centers.  So likely most were sold to non public miners.

I happened to grab one when they were for sell.  I still love it, works great have not had any issues with it.    But the S7 took place on the miner they are currently producing.

S5+ also appears to have been, in part, a prototype for the S7 design.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

It was this for sure.  And it is a very good design compared to normal S5.  I really like having a full case.

It also was a way to use a lot of chip's.  9 hashing modules of chips they could get rid of them quick.   It is a really good miner in my case I really have enjoyed it.

which it make sense, because as it is right now the s5+ as the same efficiency as its old brother, just more raw power

i would go for s7 any day over it, no point in something that has not the same efficiency, unless you have free bills...

It's actually a little more efficient then the regular S5.  Granted it's nothing like S7.  But there is still a little difference.

I really do like mine.    Has been a great machine.
