Are there any reputable sites where I can still buy an antminer s5+? I am thinkig of starting mining bitcoins and want a large machine to start it with! I am only willing to buy from reputable insured sites such as Amazon or Ebay.
(please do not post WTS posts here about antminer s5+'s)

They were a limited sale only 1 batch for public customers. And then BM switched to S7. So you are not going to get direct. You will need to find 3rd parties that bought from BM. So WTS's and Ebay, etc are likely only way's you will get this miner.

Why are you wanting to go with an S5+ over an S7?
If he has cheaper electricity it's cheaper on GH/$. The S7 if you have higher electricity makes more sense. There are so many individual factors in mining. Not one size fits all anymore.

Yes but S5+'s are hard to come by due to this reason he may have to ship internationally and really hurting his chances at ROI, that and an S7 will resale better later on. Depends on the buyer. If its cheap electricity the S7 has 4.86 standard as long as it is not sub par. The S5+ is 7.72. So that is a decent amount extra hashing power. It really is not one size fit's all in mining. That almost 3T extra hashing is nice for those with lower electricity bills.

Just yesterday I was visiting a friend who is going to sell his three Antminers s5 for around $500 each. I think the price is a bit too high but he is confident he will sell them for the price. ... What country are you from?

What country are you from? He is wrong the going price for an S5 standard is 300$ with shipping included, that and the location they are in could definitely have moisture in the air and have damaged some of the hardware. I agree or you can check the price here https://www.bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020141223145144203LHv1Ae820632 for any ideas before you buy S5. $500 is to pricey and that is second hand and could have damage of the hardware. try to check the s5 first if you really want to buy it. And also try to negotiate I'm sure your friend will deal with that.

Depends where you sell it. Ebay looks like 350 is doable but there is lots of fees. On forum it is going to be more along the 300. Only possible way he get's 500 is if he's in a country with huge vat/import tax (some are 25 precent which is crazy). In these high vat areas I could see 400+ pretty easy.

I understand that it looks horrible on the picture I took, but actually the miners are located in the attic, not in the cellar, so there is no excessive moisture there. Depends where you sell it. Ebay looks like 350 is doable but there is lots of fees. On forum it is going to be more along the 300.

Yes, he's in Ukraine where vat/import tax stands at 20 percent as far as I know. He says that he already checked local forums and knows for sure that he can easily sell s5 for 400+, but he's looking for $500. )

i can only think of the big initial investment for the new s7, and that the s5 if you buy it used, which you should fine more easily, you cut a big portion of your investment and if he have cheap electricity the difference won't be that marked

I don't think you have to pay VAT on resail as you already paid it on purchase!

I don't think you have to pay VAT on resail as you already paid it on purchase! This would be true as it was imported in country and paid the vat. I think everyone is saying even with a 20 percent vat 500 is a pretty hard goal to get. They could buy one and pay vat cheaper then that. You do offer having it already in country which counts for something. I think price will be ore around 400. If you get offers of 500 take it and run. You got a great deal if selling for that.

Maybe they are including the power line.
That alone and in good condition would be worth around 100USD (as long as you havn't "fried" them then there is potential for them to sell for 500USD/~£300 right? That may not be such a Rediculous offer, however, I did specify S5+ not the usual s5!

They were talking about regular S5, not S5+. So it is getting a tad offtopic since started S5+. But S5 does not take near as fancy of PSU as the S5+ to get all those PCI-e. But it is possible for PSU's to higher price on sales.

The S5 can definitely be used in a home environment, the S5+ no most likely not but the S7 Philip has done one hell of a noise reduction mod you might want to check out. If you are talking about an S5+ I think if you really really get innovative with some mods you might make it a lot better. I think we should separate hobby miners and home miners. Most likely hobby miners will be able run it as they have an area with 220/240. If you talk about home miners yes for many a S5+ is to big. But I think home miner is going to be harder and harder. Look at S7 that is pretty big for a lot of houses. The gear just seems to be getting more big and powerful on miners.

Well the fees taked by each country is what makes the price and well at Brazil those miner of 500 dollars would be cheap since we pay 50% fee when we export .... soo for sure it will get sold on the next months or weeks.

While interesting, the discussion of what price your friend's S5 units will fetch isn't really relevant. While an S5+ looks and kinda sounds like it's three S5's that are bolted together, that isn't accurate. each third of an S5+ has three hashing boards( the regular S5 has two), and there are many more chips on the S5+ boards, each dissipating less power than on an S5 board.
Similar name, but not really all that similar when you look into them (i.e. S5 -vs S5+).

This topic is starting to get a little off topic I would agree S5+ and S5 are completly different beasts. Somehow this turned into what will a regular S5 bring. Which anwser was depends on area. At this point it really should be about S5+. The S5 is just quite a bit different in spec and in real life i have both. I can say I enjoy the S5+ much more. Running for a month without touching is awesome for any miner.

that's why i was asking for something that resemble a mini s7, half of its haspower to cut the power to 600 and still have a better efficienfy than the s5 most apartment have only 3k and at least 2 are there for the washing machine, actually it is 2500 of peak for that only
