Dash is quite popular among altcoin users  It is hard to say, what is the profit from Dash at the moment 

Most altcoins have holders, not users. . 45% of the new coins go to Master node operator. I am not sure if it is profitable for them.

If you mean of the past months/year, probably ETH.  If you mean volume/percent rise today, you can just go to coinmarketcap.com and sort by %change or volume.

I believe VNL will be the hottest coin at some point because it's the only one with a developer delivering non-gimmick innovation, but it's not the hottest right now.

Altcoins market is down a lot. We cannot appraise their performance based on their price movement. Why not buy the altcoin index like coinoindex which is traded on poloniex.com. So we can invest the top 20 altcoins.

I say currently as there is pretty much blood in the streets in the alt-coin scene with the massive jumps BTC has been taking lately

We'll I noticed DROP, faucet coin. I sold one for 60 k satoshis 3 day's ago, 2 day's ago it was 80kk, and yesterday I sold one for 180 k. I'm newbie and this was my first trading (just selling for now), I'm falow few coins, but this one has some nice rise this days.

doge is primed for a run up, so my best $million dolla Alt to get hot pick.

ltc outta get pumped to $500M, once the BTC whales look for insurance but looks like 2017 before they move to ltc.

the ETH pump back to $1 is a bit of a surprise, and ETH might be #3 after BTC, LTC ... ripple needs to be taken out back and put out of it's misery ... these premine coins are not taking off ... so XRP, STELLAR, NEU, Byte are no volume toxic waste.

DASH is game for a whale dump and lots of drama.
