Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

All calm and sunny here in Sandy, Utah 84092.

I wonder what people will think of in a few years when they hear the name Sandy.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

I doubt it'll be a hurricane. It'll come and go, give it a month and people will forget about it till it comes up in conversation.

Great! I'll assume the nuclear power plants in Sandy's path are fine.

I haven't hear anything on the plants either by TV or the feeds I'm getting from TWC and the hurricane center so I'm guessing their ok, except for that one substation I video linked that exloded, causing NYC to go completely without power. I think the ES has their own back up supply as it was the only one lit.

Oh yeah I know, I'd be down there reporting it live but no truck. There's an amount of adrenalin that comes with this kind of stuff. Just
wanting to go down to NYC in complete darkness reminds me something out of I Am Legend. I woulda loved to have grabbed some pictures myself instead of relying on routers for em.

I bet!

In regards to Nuclear sites, the BBC reported this morning that there is a site on the coast (one of the oldest sites?) that had gone to alert due to rising waters.

I can see why they'd want to keep that out of the feeds. I was also hearing last night of yes/no reports that the nyse had water on the trading floor.
