It's gotten harder to buy btc in the uk in a reasonable amount of time after mt.gox stopped taking cash deposits and intersango's had their uk bank closed (also looking to buy bitcoins via bank transfer if anyone is interested)

Tried setting up the pingit service however I never recieved the penny deposit with the reference code - and if you try and call the help line, you get put through to a call centre in india, with a horrible, horrible connection, so it's basically impossible to get anything sorted out. I've not tried bitcoin-central however

It gets pretty heavy use now. I'm glad to hear this. I haven't tried it yet, but only because my banks online service is down. As soon as I can top up my ping it account, I'll give it a go.

There's tons of buyers and sellers on localbitcoins. Only trade with sellers who have a lot of feedback, and don't pay attention to the location as long as they are in the UK since you are paying with a bank transfer. Localbitcoins is going to change their site to facilitate these types of trades instead of trading in person.

SealsWithClubs poker room has over 400 players online. Buy in from .01 to 60btc. BTCSportsMatch lets you bet sports with vig free lines! Best kept secret in bitcoin.... LocalBitcoins.com is very user-friendly now for bank transfers. You don't have to live close to trade when in the same currency area. Electrum client is awesome. Try it. And please stop sending bitcoins to sites run by security newbies, or don't complain when you lose everything.

Have you tried Bitcoin-Central?
sent GBP to Bitcoin-Central 26/10 - my account is still not credited. Transfers elsewhere always got credited next day. Sorry to say i won't be going there again.
