I'll go out on a limb and say that anyone wouldn't trade their life's savings for a pizza.  So if he offered 10,000, I'm sure he had 50,000 or more on hand.

I know, and he offered to do it any time. Wink  I was being snarky.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I think the offer has been closed now.

Rather, at the time, he said it was a standing offer.  And yes, he has since rescinded this.

I sold 15,000 BTC for about $45, and I've bought at around that price, too. It really was worthless a year or so ago.

It was surprising when the price reached $0.01 -- I had been trading at below a cent for some time.

If you know you can buy pizza with bitcoin any time you want you can convert your pizza money to bitcoins and not have to worry about how long it takes to turn them back into dollars if you want a pizza.  Grin

Carrots were on the pizza. It was a carrot pizza.

I recall the 10,000 BTC was worth about $50 at the time, so whatever that exchange rate translates into.  $50 is still a lot for two large pizzas, but I suspect he wanted to give an incentive for someone to do it.

Re-reading this thread, I realized everyone's missing the point:

PIZZA IS AN INCREDIBLY STABLE & FUNGIBLE CURRENCY.

I'm currently in the process of converting all of my hoarded BTC and USD into medium size pizzas (each unit is divisible to about 2 decimal points.) There's an electricity cost I have to subsidize to keep them fresh in a deep-freezer, but it's less electricity than I could consume with a mining rig, so...
