I'm not sure why he would lie about this, but I'll ask him if he has any proof anyways. He's living in germany right now, so maybe he's actually been there.

He must mean that it accepts cash and Bitcoin only, or he's full of shit. No way is there a bar that only accepts Bitcoin thats surviving, especially one the community doesn't even know about.

Apart from the fact that he'd likely go broke accepting Bitcoin only, I wonder whether it would even be legal for him to refuse to accept cash.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Legal tender laws only apply to settling debts. So if he refuses to server the beer until he is paid, does not allow tabs or serving before paying, then yes he can refuse customers that do not offer him the type of payment he wants. Now on the other hand if he had served some beer and then asked to be paid his customer is only obliged to pay the debt in legal tender.

didnt the bitcoin euro convention 2011 mention going to the restaurant at the end of capitalism.

EDIT
just googled it:

http://www.bitcoin2012.com/speakers
Joerg Platzer (founding member of the Berlin based Crypto Currency Consulting Group) finds a crypto-currency based financial system would be the second best financial system we can imagine. He loves Bitcoin to bits. That's why he accepts it at ROOM77, the restaurant at the end of capitalism. His talk is on certainty. Probably.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Room77 accepts bitcoin + other cryptocurrencies, silver (gold?), cash etc. No plastic cards Smiley

Great place, and should definitely receive more promotion. I went there often when I was living in Berlin, hopefully I will be able to move there soon again Smiley

I could see a place surviving by only accepting Bitcoin if they had an easy cash->BTC exchange right there. Kinda like "there's an ATM outside".

I went to a bar that only accepted cash but they had a little device in the corner where you swipe your card and "withdraw" cash via the bartender giving you cash from the drawer. Then you pay it right back.

Most likely this is to get around the 2-3% charge as well as avoid a paper trail for the IRS.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.
