This one of the greatest news about Bitcoin. This means there will be free trade with bitcoin (if enough trust is invested on it).
Legality will come in time, wait and see.

I think we have to continue the hard work after this victory, we have to continue supporting and advertising Bitcoin everywhere and of course using it as main currency to make our trades
we hope that remaining countries accept BTC as real currency, and that's need continuation of our support and effort

Okay, will somebody please explain what actually happened.  When you pay for something with bitcon in the EU you wont get taxed anymore?  Or, you wont get taxed when you pay for bitcoin with euro?  And, how is that different from how bitcoin is spent in the USA?

as far as I understand, this doesn't mean BTC is a legal payment method. it just means that tx's aren't going to have extra taxes attached

This has got the be the best news the Bitcoin community has received, this year at the least.
Though I had expected more news coverage, it does seem like nobody cares.

And I'm really curious to see the implications of this over the next couple of years.

This is awesome news.

I remember Finland being the first EU country to tax bitcoins, I think you have to pay taxes for your profit only for now, but VAT taxes are included as well if you import stuff from outside the country like it is with everything else here. Smiley

well yes it's legal, because saying that bitcoin is vat-free, mean that it is regulated, or begin to be regulated, so you can use it, freerly

Here I have the same doubt. I guess it's only for those in the EU and not worldwide. This way I guess every country needs to accept bitcoins and make it officially legal worldwide.

I am a long term HODLER, I've barely ever spent any of my bitcoin's apart from small amounts I receive in signature campaigns.....

Can I just get this right please somebody.....Bitcoin sales in the EU are now exempt from tax? So if I sell bitcoin's in a cash, face to face transaction I pay no tax?

Read this: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/10/22/eu-rules-bitcoin-is-a-currency-not-a-commodity-virtually/

Virtual currency bitcoin took another step toward legitimacy Thursday, when Europe’s top court ruled that it must be treated like a currency—not a commodity—for tax purposes.

The European Union’s Court of Justice ruled that bitcoin exchanges that transfer conventional currencies such as euros or Swedish krona into bitcoin for a fee are exempt from value-added taxes because of EU rules barring such taxes on transfers of “currency, bank notes and coins used as legal tender.”

This is such a positive step for Bitcoin's golden future, buy all while you still can because this will make the price skyrocket. If you buy now, you might still be considered an early adopter. Cheesy

This is more good news for us. Let this all happen at an underground level, it just gives us more time to buy cheap coins and benefit as early visionaries. Let all those great news go unnoticed by the mainstream so we can enjoy a bigger stack. Im still buying monthly and holding for a lot more years, this hasn't even begun.

Really nice by EU to not ruin everyone's savings with ridiculous taxes. I wonder how they will actually tax the stuff tho. I still don't know how to do it. Do you tax your stack of BTC and pay %increment in your total wealth, your BTC total, or you need to put every single trade you ever did? (I think Americans have to do this which is insanely annoying). Im not an economist and usually hand my taxes to my brother which knows how this stuff works, but I asked about Bitcoin and he didn't know what it is.

there is still taxes on capital gain, this is only for vat, and i'm sure you must declare if you run a serious mining activity in euro, but i presume none is running one that is big enough
That only Vat was kiling bitcoin. In my country that VAT was 23%,also that tax merchant or peson had to pay whan thay have own bitcoin ,not when thay sell from his profit. Now everything has changed ,diffrent story
