Assembling a computer with GPU for mining

I'm just going to as for tips on what kind of GPU should a computer have to be able to mine altcoins?
If for instance I can afford or maybe buy an existing one in our local store, maybe I can start mining altcoins, please suggest.

If you treat mining as a hobby or you have very low cost of electricity, then it is OK to mine. Otherwise mining is not profitable.

I thinks you should have to try a series of ATI Raedon R9 290x. It can mine well as like other card, in my experience it is best GPU for mining Bitcoins, Altcoins etc. !

I use my old gaming AMD r9 280x, it is good for a lot of algorithms if power is free though imagine a bunch of them

i dont know what the situation is now but once upon a time r9 270x was the best effective card. i mean hashrate/electricity costs

BFGminer for Sha-256, CGminer for Scrypt, Sgminer for all other Exotic Algorithms.

I haven't mined anything for about a year, got like 5 cards collecting dust in the basement
Winter is coming so I can use the heat and the electricity is about 5 cent here

But, I've been out of business for such a long time, need to do some catch up

Depends on the algorithm. If you have a Maxwell chip, they're far more power efficient though.

Depends on the algorithm. If you have a Maxwell chip, they're far more power efficient though.

they are all old AMD 7950/70s,  i used to mine Scrypt coins till ASIC is out
I changed to X11 last year for about 2 days, and the good/bad thing is they don't generate enough heat in the winter

Doing some catch up studies in the forum and will give it a try as bitcoin price is rocking recently, it might be profitable

Mining bitcoin isn't profitable but altcoins can be. AS far as I know most of the solo miners don't go into bitcoin because of the hashrate and the equipment needed. They'd rather go for other coins.

well diff is rising a lot already and price on most altcoins are tanking because people are selling more now... so meh market adjusting itself. unprofitable already for me :/

It depends on if you can identify coin. It is hit and miss game. There are to many scam coins out there.
