BARR - Burning Altcoins for Redemption & Reduction

Raising the BARR by Reducing Supply

The Only Source for BARR-Certified Altcoin Offset Credits

1st Coin using Multi-Proof-of-Burn

Launch date November 1, 2015

http://barrcoin.me

NXT Asset I.D. 7823929696462256005

————————————————————————

————————————————————————

Burning Altcoins for Redemption and Reduction is a new cryptocurrency on the NXT Asset Exchange.

BARR is only earned via Proof-of-Burn, in exchange for altcoins which are permanently destroyed via burn addresses.
Our goal is to absorb entire altcoin networks and their users,
burning their coins,
redeeming those coins with BARR,
and reducing the total number of altcoins on the market.

Burning BARR for OFFS gives us a further purpose.
Please see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1233350 for details about OFFS.

————————————————————————

Just as burning bitcoins makes all remaining bitcoins more valuable, burning entire altcoins will make all remaining cryptocurrencies more valuable.

We believe that the altcoin market is stuck in a fatal loop;
BARR is designed to disrupt that self-destructive cycle and eliminate resource-hogging redundancy.

As BARR absorbs more coins and more users, it will grow stronger as the crowd of altcoins grows weaker.  Multi-Proof-of-Burn means the higher the price of BARR, the more altcoins we can afford to "buy out".

There will be no IPO, no ICO, no Pre-Sale, and no funds set aside for the devs.  BARR is only distributed to people who burn their altcoins - We distribute it for free, but no one can get it for free.

We do not handle anyone's altcoins, because users send their coins directly to burn addresses and prove their burn by sending us the transaction ID.  Then we send them an amount of BARR equivalent to the amount of altcoins they burned, at the predetermined rate of exchange.

————————————————————————

Full Transparency

See the list of our team members, and community representatives from our launch coins, at http://barr.me/who

Burn addresses for each altcoin we've burned can be found at http://barr.me/what

Although NXT Assets and the NXT Asset Exchange are decentralized,
it is not possible to fully run a project like BARR with the current state of decentralized technology.
Even if we coded all future altcoins for redemption into a client,
it would be necessary to make constant changes over the next few years as altcoins constantly get delisted or stop working.

At best we would have to hard-fork every month to set the current rate of exchange and make adjustments as to which coins will be accepted,
which amounts to the same thing as relying on developers at every stage.

So, until such time that the technology exists to run BARR as a fully decentralized project,
we will provide full transparency in every way possible.

Although there are limitations to the voting system at bitcointalk,
we will offer votes to decide which coins will be redeemed in future burn exchanges.
If less than 100 people participate in a vote,
or if the vote appears to be manipulated,
we may need to decide based on response from the BARR community and the communities of the altcoins we burn.

————————————————————————

PLEASE NOTE:

BARR does not burn or destroy other people’s coins;  that would be impossible.
It is up to the holders of these coins to burn them, and only if they choose.

BARR is not an attack on you or other holders of your altcoin,
because only you and other holders of your altcoin can burn your coins.

The choice is yours,
and any holders who choose to participate in BARR redemption are voting with their coins when they send them to the burn address.

————————————————————————

Who benefits from BARR?
Holders of good coins, holders of bad coins, holders of struggling coins, and holders of BARR.

 – Holders of good coins benefit when bad coins are destroyed, leaving more money on the market available for the good coins.

 – Holders of bad coins benefit when they burn their coins in exchange for BARR, turning their liabilities into liquidity.

– Holders of BARR benefit when the market bands together against the never-ending plague of altcoins;  buying BARR is a Vote of No Confidence in Altcoin Business As Usual.

  – If BARR offers an exchange for a struggling altcoin and the altcoin’s supply is only partially destroyed, then that coin and BARR can both benefit.  BARR can gain users and adopt the value of the absorbed coins which were burned, while the altcoin can continue with a higher value – no longer struggling, due to its reduced supply.  In this case BARR has still served its purpose, transforming a bad coin into a good coin.

 ————————————————————————

Instead of adding another altcoin to the market, we're subtracting altcoins from the market.
BARR puts an end to pumping and dumping, because coins that no longer exist can never be dumped again.
If you think there are too many altcoins on the market, buy BARR and help destroy those coins.

————————————————————————

WALLETS

BARR coins are sent and received from your NXT wallet – if you’ve never used NXT before, just try it.  We think you’ll be impressed.

To download the NXT client, visit http://NXT.org.  (The installation is relatively simple, but it takes a while for the blockchain to sync.)

With the NXT client, you can send, receive, and trade, all inside the wallet interface.
That includes NXT, BARR, and any other NXT asset as well as any currency on the NXT Monetary System, such as Nautilus.

To use an online wallet, visit https://wallet.MyNXT.info  (Requires purchase of their Asset plug-in for 1000 NXT)

Or to begin trading BARR instantly with a NXT passphrase, visit http://skynxt.github.io/www

To trade with NXT within the SuperNET Lite client:
https://nxtforum.org/lite-multigateway-releases/supernet-lite-v2-0-7-beta/

 ————————————————————————

There is no ICO, but we welcome community contributions in the following ways:

 - - Buy the accepted altcoins on exchanges and burn them for BARR, or burn the altcoins you already have.
 - - Buy BARR from people who have earned it by burning their altcoins.
 - - Dump your altcoins into our buywalls, and we'll burn them.

We will attempt to provide buy support across all exchanges, hopefully with community help, to allow liquidity for these coinswaps.  Whether your sell your altcoins to us on exchanges, or burn them and sell us your BARR, we want to take away the weight of that bag you've been holding.

IMPORTANT:  Although the announcement of a BARR "buyout" has the potential to influence the market prices of these altcoins, please trade at your own risk and remember that our buywalls will disappear at the end of the burn period (if not before).  You can continue to hold your altcoins, gambling on the chance that the price might rise, or you can take the guaranteed BARR and forget about those other coins forever.

BARR isn't about buying altcoins on exchanges, it's about redeeming people's altcoins when they burn them.  When a coin hardforks to a new blockchain, the main holders of Altcoin2.0 are the people who were already holders of Altcoin1.0 - in the same way, the main holders of BARR will be the people who already mined and held these altcoins.  The reason we plan to support the price of these altcoins with buywalls during swaps is to maintain the value of the BARR being exchanged for the altcoins.  If the altcoins we're redeeming become available too cheap, then BARR becomes available too cheap.  That would defeat the purpose of people swapping for BARR, since they need to swap for something of value.

————————————————————————

Multi-Proof-of-Burn as a long-term method of coin distribution

As the life of BARR develops, we hope to see the true benefits of the Multi-Proof-of-Burn innovation.  The price of BARR acts as the "difficulty" in a unique way that has never been seen before:

At launch, you can earn 5,000 BARR for burning 10,000 KEY.  But as BARR gains more users, the difficulty – the price – will hopefully rise.  In the future, if BARR has a higher price, then burning 10,000 altcoins might only bring you 500 BARR.  Or 50.  Or 5.  In this way we hope to have a curve of emission over time similar to a PoW coin with frequent block halvings, which could allow us to continue buying altcoins indefinitely as we approach the maximum supply without ever reaching it.

Visit http://barr.me/how for details of how the "block halving" is scheduled, with an estimated 7,500,000 BARR to be in circulation after 4 years.

Total supply is set at 10 million BARR.  All existing coins at launch must stay in the burnfund until exchanged for burned coins.

————————————————————————

INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES FOR BURNING YOUR ALTCOINS IN EXCHANGE FOR BARR

Step #1:  Before sending your coins to the burn address, make sure you're burning one of the coins accepted during the current burn period.

Step #2:  Before you burn your coins, message us at Bitcointalk and tell us which coin you're burning, how many coins, and your NXT address.   (If your NXT account has never received a transaction before, also include your Public Key)

Step #3:  After you have burned your altcoins, message us again with a copy of your previous message, and add the transaction ID of your send to the burn address.

This allows us to verify on the blockchain that you have actually sent that amount of coins to the burn address.
Telling us before you do it will prevent anyone else from watching transactions and claiming that your burned coins came from them.
There is no way to prove who sent an unclaimed transaction, and any disputed or unclaimed burn transactions may not be redeemed if we cannot determine who burned the coins.  So message us and claim your coins before you send them.
If you split your coins into multiple smaller transaction IDs, we will wait until all transactions arrive at the burn address and verify that they add up to the total amount you had requested.

————————————————————————

Anyone attempting to pass a fake transaction ID or previously used transaction ID will have their bitcointalk account and NXT account permanently banned from participating in all future BARR altcoin redemptions.

————————————————————————

The initial burn period may require a minimum exchange of 50 BARR per transaction, to reduce spam and because each transfer costs us 1 NXT.  That means you must burn a minimum of 100 FRAC, 100 KEY, 66 XAI, or 50 BARR.

Newbie Bitcointalk accounts may be held to a minimum of 500 BARR, to prevent spam from sockpuppet accounts.

The minimum may be reduced for future burn periods according to the difficulty, or it may be waived on an individual basis if spam is not a significant problem.

————————————————————————

We will strictly enforce the cutoff of the burn period at one minute before Midnight, 11:59PM or 23:59 UTC/Greenwich Mean Time on the final day of the burn period.  (That's 7:59PM in New York during the summer, and 6:59PM in New York if it's winter.)

If you have not sent us the txid showing your send to the burn address by 23:59 UTC, you will not receive BARR.

We will attempt to maintain buywalls on exchanges through the end of the burn period, and any coins sold to us after 23:59 UTC will be burned for BARR and that BARR will be re-burned by sending it back to the burn fund.

If our buywalls are depleted before midnight on the final day of the burn period, and you are able to buy a million billion coins for 1 satoshi, we will honor them at the set rate of BARR if you send them by 23:59 UTC – but one minute later and you will get nothing.

So please stop buying the altcoins well in advance of midnight, and do not burn any coins after 11:59PM unless you consider it a donation.  Because we’re serious about the cutoff.

Our goal is to burn at least one altcoin every 30 to 60 days.  Our options of which new coins we can afford to burn, and how many, and how often, will depend on the price of BARR.

To vote for which coin we will burn during the next period, send BARR to our Market Fund with a message attached indicating the coin you're voting for.  1 BARR = 1 Vote.  Voting ends at 00:00 GMT on the 1st of each month, and burns are currently scheduled from the 14th to the 28th of each month.

Swaps for burned coins will be done at a fixed rate - we will announce each coin, its exchange rate, and the period for which the offer will be available.

—————————————————————————–

Burn Period #1, November 1 to November 30, 2015:

  – – Fractalcoin (FRAC) at .5 BARR per FRAC (2 FRAC for 1 BARR), with a buy-support target of 5000 satoshis per FRAC on market
 – – Keycoin (KEY) at .5 BARR per KEY (2 KEY for 1 BARR), with a buy-support target of 5000 satoshis per KEY on market
 – – Sapience (XAI) at .75 BARR per XAI (~1.33 XAI for 1 BARR), with a buy-support target of 7500 satoshis per XAI on market
 - - Burning Altcoins for Redemption and Reduction (BARR) at 1 OFFS per BARR (1 BARR for 1 OFFS), with a buy-support target of 10,000 satoshis per BARR on market

The burn address for Fractalcoin is FVAiSujNZVgYSc27t6zUTWoKfAGxc8CEW5

The burn address for Keycoin is K7D9JtQxx7rRoWGu6szLpeFQKhbSzyUbC8

The burn address for Sapience is AFmseVrdL9f9oyCzZefL9tG6UbvhPbdYzM

These burn addresses can be verified as unspendable because they return a hash with a long string of zeroes.

The burn address for BARR is NXT-HD9P-ZTPP-EHFJ-59VUC

This is the address for the Burn Fund, and coins are removed from circulation by sending them here.  They cannot be re-sent until they are re-earned with another proven burn transaction of altcoins.

 —————————————————————————–

Burn Period #2-A, December 1 to December 30, 2015:

 - - ACP Anarchists Prime at 05 BARR per ACP (20 ACP per BARR) with a target price on market of 600 satoshis per ACP

 - - Wild Card:  LYB Lyrabar at .5 BARR per LYB (2 LYB per BARR) with a target price on market of 6000 satoshis per LYB

 - - BARR for OFFS at .9 OFFS per BARR (~ 1.111 BARR per OFFS) with a target price on market of .00012 BTC (12,000 satoshis) per BARR

The burn address for ACP is 1111111111111111111114oLvT2

The burn address for LYB is LKDxGDJq5fF4FohAB8zJH24mDDNHDNtqsE

The burn address for BARR is NXT-HD9P-ZTPP-EHFJ-59VUC

 —————————————————————————–

Burn Period #2-B, January 1 to January 30, 2016:

 - - To Be Decided

 —————————————————————————–

PLEASE NOTE:  In case of emergency, double-spend attack, stalled or forked blockchain, block explorer failure, or other disastrous unforeseen circumstances that may interfere with our ability to conduct burn exchanges, we may end the burn period early.  So if you're planning to burn your coins for BARR, don't procrastinate.

————————————————————————

Please let us know of any objections or reasons why any of these coins should not be accepted.

————————————————————————

Please note that a coin may lose eligibility if its network stops working, if it is delisted from all exchanges, or if its block explorer goes down.
Because of the temporary nature of eligibility, we cannot decide on future coins too far in advance.  The price, total supply, and network status of each coin is subject to change at any time, so the coins for each burn period will have to be decided shortly before the burn period begins.

Wild Card Burns

If we do not agree that a coin needs to be burned, but it is requested for burn by the community or its own devs, we may choose to burn it as a Wild Card.  Even though we think it’s a good coin, we’ll burn it anyway and see what happens.  Maybe it’s not as good as we think, and we could end up destroying the entire coin.  Or maybe the coin will continue with a reduced supply and come out stronger.

Wild Card coins will be treated as a separate category in addition to the standard burn periods – with a regular burn, we honestly believe that we can burn a coin’s supply and get rid of it.  If we don’t think that’s possible or desirable for a given coin, we will make it clear that it is a Wild Card and falls outside the normal rules of BARR redemption in 2 ways:

#1 – The exchange rate.  Standard burns offer an exchange rate that is favorable enough to be accepted by the majority of a coin’s users, to give them incentive to burn their coins for BARR.  But for a Wild Card, if we don’t feel that there is a reasonable chance of destroying the entire coin, we may offer a lower rate of exchange.

#2 – Our personal supplies of these coins, if we have any.   In a standard burn period, we will offer buy support for the altcoin being burned, and we will burn 100% of the coins we buy on market or otherwise hold.  We don’t want to be stuck with these coins after the burn period ends.  But for a Wild Card, BARR devs may choose to keep some of our personally-held coins.  However, the BARR Burn Fund and the BARR Market Fund will always participate in burns and burn any altcoins they acquire, even for Wild Cards.
For all standard coin burns, we pledge to burn 100% of the altcoins under our control.  We do not want to give the appearance of a conflict of interests in any way, and that is why we want to make a clear distinction between our standard burns and any Wild Card burns.

Since our goal is to remove altcoins from the market, we will not offer burns on coins that are already dead or delisted from all exchanges.

We will not offer burns on coins that have high block rewards, high staking rewards, or which would otherwise easily be able to regain the supply after we burn it.

We will not offer burns on coins that are less than 6 months old, and we will not burn any coins released after 2015 unless we start running out of older eligible coins.

We cannot offer an exchange for a coin that has a higher marketcap than the value of the amount of BARR allocated for the current burn period difficulty level.

We cannot offer burns on coins that do not have a working block explorer, as we need to verify each burn transaction.  We also need to verify the total supply, as CoinMarketCap’s figures can be inaccurate if the official block explorer is down.

Centralized control or checkpoints could be problematic, as burn transactions could be reversed or rolled-back.

Please let us know if any of our information is incorrect, or if you think one of these coins should be reconsidered for burn redemption.
Most of our information comes from CoinMarketCap, Bitcointalk, and Google searches, but we can easily miss a coin being listed at another exchange, a new block explorer, or other important information that could change a coin's eligibility status.

CoinMarketCap has removed coins that are only listed at AllCoin, because AllCoin is offline (hopefully it's temporary).  So, again, this information is constantly changing.

Can you burn BARR for BARR?

In the future, if we swap to a different platform, you will be able to burn BARR for BARR.

For now, burning BARR by sending it to the Burn Fund is how you can earn OFFS Altcoin Offset Credits.
Details available at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1233350

good job BARR!

I like the eligible list it is a good start.  Wild Card coins look sound too.

Some of the 'Ineligible' I disagree.  But that was a massive amount of research and 95% correct and matches with my understanding/research.

Will dispute later  Wink and it is only in regard to less than 5-7 coins on the 'Ineligibles'.

---
This is an inventive new concept.  And in terms of long term vision I hope the foundation of a DAC that stewards and helps maintain some of the coins that respond well to burns.  For now it is an experiment but has the potential to add value to the crypto-space.

If you split your coins into multiple smaller transaction IDs, we will wait until all transactions arrive at the burn address and verify that they add up to the total amount you had requested.

small note ... if there was a dispute someone could just sign a message or send an amount from the address to 'prove' they hold the key/rights.

Good point.  Unfortunately I think a lot of these coins will be sent from exchanges, in which case that wouldn't work.

As to the ineligible coins, being on that list doesn't mean it's a bad coin.  It just means it won't work for burn exchange - maybe because there's no block explorer, or maybe just because there's no chance of destroying the supply because high mining rewards are still ongoing.  Of course if a coin's marketcap is too high we won't be able to burn it, so being eligible for burn is a separate issue from being a good coin.  And a large premine doesn't necessarily disqualify a coin, unless it's likely that the premine is still mostly held by the devs.  We want to give BARR to crypto holders, not reward scammers for hodling their own premine.

But we definitely need feedback on anything we got wrong, because we are going to need a lot of coins to burn.

Hi guys,

I believe the exchange rate of XAI is too favorable according to the real coin prices in the market.
It should be .5 BARR per XAI to be fair with KEY and FRAC. Can you pls update this before Nov 1st?

I really love your concept of burning coins. Especially multi proof of burn, this will lower the price of others coin and increase the price of BARR considerably. However, I think that based on NXT which is a currency got quite big blockchain right now will slow down the amount of user who hates waiting for things to sync

I literally made an account on this forum (finally) just to point out the obvious scam in all of this:

So you're proposing burning a coin and receiving credit for burning in BARR, however this means eventually BARR is going to have some value on the asset exchange. That is 1 BARR = x units of NXT.

Since you control the supply of BARR, what is honestly preventing you from when x hits some desirable rate that you just don't dump a huge chunk of your BARR onto the market, make a nice profit and walk?

Also, lol the fact that you're doing this manually, this honestly wouldn't take more than a day or two to automate, since people can attach messages to transactions they could put their NXT address / pub key in the message field, submit the coins to the burn addresses listed and you have a worker bot that pays them out automatically -- literally a day of coding tops.

tl;dr
obvious (eventual) scam, dev probably doesn't know jack about coding

-- edit: this post will probably get deleted too, but op deleted the post where I called out his bullshit in technical details, oh well.

KEY and FRAC both have a higher supply, and they're both cheaper than XAI.  So the price is already balanced between all 3, with approximately 500,000 BARR allocated for each altcoin.

We can't set the exchange rate at the current price of a low-volume market, because we already know that nobody is willing to sell at that price.  So we are offering more than the current price for all 3 coins, to give holders enough incentive to sell.

KEY and FRAC have both been trading under 3000, so we're setting the exchange rate at .5 BARR (estimated at 5000).  XAI has been as low as 4000, it's still around 5000 now, and there still aren't many sell orders going through.  So we're setting the exchange rate at .75 BARR (estimated at 7500).

These rates allow us to offer an equivalent amount of BARR for the entire supply of each coin:

1,003,590 FRAC for 501,795 BARR
945,787 KEY for 472,893 BARR
684,468 XAI  for 513,351 BARR

Does this seem fair to all 3 coins, since we're offering the same amount of BARR for each one?

You don't have to sync a NXT client to hold or trade BARR.  Syncing a new NXT wallet can take 24 to 48 hours, but you can also use an online wallet/trade account at MyNXT.info or SecureAE.com.

As it says in the OP, a project like this isn't possible without someone running it.  There's no way to make it fully decentralized with the currently existing technology.

The Burn Fund will never sell BARR, and never send it to anyone without a txid to prove that altcoins were burned for it.

What prevents us from dumping the Burn Fund is that we're all holders of these altcoins ourselves, and we want to exchange them for something valuable.  If we wanted to dump them, we'd dump them now and not bother exchanging them for BARR.  But it's true that it could possibly happen if we were dishonest, which is a limitation of the project.  As time goes on, and more BARR is fairly distributed to many people, then the risk will grow less and less as there will continually be less BARR in the Burn Fund, and as we build a track record of honestly handling the accounts.

If we begin to behave like BanxShares and break all our promises, act without transparency, give ourselves millions of free coins, double the supply after promising not to, and lie to the public, then you will have a legitimate complaint.

(Actually we can't double the supply because it's fixed, and we can't do anything without people being able to see it, because the NXT platform is decentralized and transparent)

Are you a good enough coder to guarantee 100% that there will never be any errors?  Then you should get a job with an altcoin exchange, because every single one of them has had problems with automated withdrawals.  We can guarantee 100% that if we accidentally overpay anyone, we will cover the error out of our own personal BARR earned by burning our own personal altcoins.

Plus, because everyone is sending to the same public burn address, it doesn't work the same as a normal automated process that generates a new address for each transaction.  If someone wants to verify the validity of the burn address and/or check all the transactions, they only have to check 1 address instead of hundreds.

This project is fully transparent, which means that everyone can monitor every step.  If we try to run away with the funds, anyone else can re-launch it and have the exact same distribution using the same transaction IDs for burned altcoins.  In fact, you can start as soon as we start, offering your own Multi-Proof-of-Burn coin for merge-mining with BARR.  Just because we're giving BARR for free to everyone who burns their altcoins, that doesn't stop you from giving your own coin for free to the same people.

So if you can do it better, the good news is that you can go ahead and start right now.

If you want to discuss it further, please come back with your real account.

i was browsing and noticed this, had to make an account just to point out how the devs tried to burry this without response...

You too?  Amazing that out of the 200 people who have viewed this topic, a full 1% of them were lurkers who created a new account to post.

And of the 8 people who have replied, a full 25% created their accounts just to post here.

And then after we didn't respond for 10 minutes, you had to create an account to point out how we tried to "bury it" for 10 minutes.  Truly a noble endeavor on your part.

Do you know what else is better when you process it manually?  Self-moderated threads.
