What is the largest file that anyone has on this forum?

I only ask this as I want to show off my 500GB .vhd file that I just created.

Can anyone beat 500GB on a domestic personal computer or external hard drive?

I could create a useless 1800GB file just say that I have a file larger than you (it would fit on my external HDD). This is pretty pointless. I'm going to assume that you did a system backup that created the .vhd file. When doing this, the best results are achieved with smaller files (your system takes less time when doing restore from backup). There's no need to backup most games/movies/music like this.

Update: As I've previously said, this is pretty pointless. I doubt that you have 500gb of useful files.

I created the file manually using DISKPART as a backpu wouldn't backup the entire system, it would just backup two partitions of the disk, leaving out the important startup files that need backupping. The file is currently 80 percent created and has taken 4 hours so far to create.
If you created a 1800GB file then I would delete my 500GB file and replace it with a 4tb file, easily fitting in my hard drive with space left!

The system disk on diskpart is 475GB in size so would easily fit in the 500GB file.

I have to say that some of the movie files I have are the larges files I have.  These files are a pain when you try to move them or when you want to delete them.  The back up my hard drive space and they take forever to be moved or removed.  I also have a few larger picture files, but those are billboard pictures I am creating for marketing purposes.

What would you do if your internet cuts out for more than 1 week?

Haven't checked. Though, my biggest files are probably videos which are a few hours long captured from a camera, which creates huge files. I have hard drives which are full with many smaller files though. (below 5gb)

I have more than 500gb for files from online, i kept downloading TV series an episodes like "river monsters" and some tutorials online from Udemy and lynda.com. I am learning skills through these videos which i think is important that is why i keep them on my external drive
