And the dog's name? Trigger. Indiana Conservation Officer Jonathon Boyd says 25-year-old Allie Carter of Avilla laid her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground without the safety on during a waterfowl hunt Saturday at Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area. Boyd says Carter's chocolate Labrador retriever, Trigger, stepped on top of the shotgun and depressed the trigger. He says Carter was shot in the left foot at point-blank range, suffering injuries to her foot and toes. She was treated at two hospitals and released. Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area is about 140 miles north of Indianapolis. http://www.abc-7.com/story/30350835/dog-named-trigger-shoots-owner-during-waterfowl-hunt#.Vi6w1bfhDUJ

Trigger's made no bones about lawyering up and isn't barking anything about the case without representation and a treat!

Carter, who is 25, apparently did not take the free hunter education course that is required of anyone applying for a hunting license in Indiana who born after Dec. 31, 1986, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported in a press release. Conservation officers remind everyone that accidents like this do happen — even accidents caused by dogs who aren’t “ironically and aptly named Trigger.” To prevent them, they said to always point the muzzle of a firearm in a safe direction and use the safety mechanism. Another way to prevent them might be by taking up a safer hobby for you and your dog. istilllovedogs.com This smiling puppy isn´t Trigger, he´s ten years old

Firearm negligence. She should have taken a safety course. Firearms have safeties for good reason.

We don´t hear much about it but idiots like this probably shoot their own dogs accidentally on a regular basis. And each other. It´s really tragic if you think about it, all those fine dogs.

Well, I highly doubt that the dog decided to make an attempt on his owner. On the other hand I know Labs and think they can be way smarter than I realize. But the dog isn´t talking so we´ll never know.

A loaded shotgun with safety off laying on the ground... even one of the waterfowls around could release the trigger . Pretty stupid thing anyway.

Guns don't kill people. People's dogs try to kill people. What is a safety for if you don't use it? Go on ya, Trigger.

Just watch everybody blame guns for this and claim they have to be banned and it is absolutely nothing to do with the owner being stupid.

I've heard people make similar cases (like when someone who woke up and shot their spouse in the house thinking it was an intruder without wondering why the spouse wasn't in the bed with them), so I'm sure you're right.

Great story about bad luck, maybe she'll be safer with guns next time. It`s terrifying that you could allow someone who has never taken the course to go out hunting. I wonder will she go again to hunt, and if so she will never forget to use safty lock that is for sure. Well its good that she is ok, and I guess they will make jokes about this on every family event.

The name Allie Carter reminds me of the movie star, Ali Larter, who played as a gun toting "mama" named, Claire, in the Resident Evil movies.
