We get so many requests for merchants to integrate BitPay with dozens of different shopping cart platforms, it is often difficult to decide which ones to do, and how much time we should devote to this as opposed to adding new features to our core service.

We have started using a simple crowdfunding model, thanks to one of our merchants http://piratemyfilm.com

There are 4 projects listed now, if you have any interest in seeing these solutions built, you can donate as little as $5 (payable in bitcoin) towards making that happen.  Each one of these carts can make it easier for many new merchants to start accepting bitcoin.

Shopify $1000 needed
http://piratemyfilm.com/projects/413

VirtueMart $400 needed
http://piratemyfilm.com/projects/414

PrestaShop $400 needed
http://piratemyfilm.com/projects/415

3d Cart $400 needed
http://piratemyfilm.com/projects/378

We have successfully raised $400 to integrate with http://ecwid.com, and that development is taking place right now.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

all five projects total more than $2,500.

will bitpay commit $2,500 of the profits it earns (eventually) from the use of these carts to help fund some other people's business ventures?  (i.e., like paying it forward investing?)

Yes, right now you pledge.  Only when the goal gets 100% reached does everyone need to pay.

yes, this website only accepts bitcoin.  the exchange rate is not determined until the actual moment of purchase, which is still a ways off.

Hello Bitpay,

We just opened up Bitcoinstarter.com we are Bitcoin Crowd Funding platform. We soft launched this past Saturday and will be posting our official thread on the forum in the next day or two.

I just wanted to throw out since we are busy advertising for pledgers to pledge on our current projects listed but if you wanted to bring any of the above projects over you could simultaneously list them both piratemyfilm and bitcoinstarter. Just a suggestion and if you need any help porting them over we can gladly do it for you also!

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Needs more information about your whereabouts.

I do I know ur not going to run away with the money? (same 'ol question :/

This is an idea I had. I haven't written one line of code yet, but I think it's an interesting idea and would be thrilled if someone, anyone, would implement it. I am not seeking donations.

Bitcoin combines money, the wrongest thing in the world, with software, the easiest thing in the world to get wrong.

I am always a bit weirded out by the idea to crowdfound a modification of a money making service , so that more users could use it.
I think this is ridiculous.

Raises always three questions :

1) Does this company have enough money to provide the service in the long term to continue?
2) If i need this , would it not be your task to offer this to me? I still have to pay fees if i want to use Bitpay. And you want to earn money from me.
3) Who comes up with this?

Question two does , for me, only have one acceptable answer.
