Purpose I think is to maximise your own happiness. The dilemma is balancing short term versus long term happiness. That may sound a tad selfish but it isn't as you cant be truly happy if you make the people around you unhappy.

Edit: Observe the things for what they are not for what they could be... Only then you will get close to ult truth. Life can be extended only in human limits but AI can be very flexible to environment. And still.. universe is expending and that means that energy is spreading even further *not getting concentrated on one spot and giving good environment temperature to enable a life form to be.

In conclusion: Universe is gonna become one cold place *absolute zero and ALL LIFE will be gone.
