i would imagine that is partially true, there's a lot more to bitcoin than anonymous gambling, but in its current state, the way bitcoin facilitates gambling online and makes it so simple with depositing any sum of money with minimal fees is surely attracting a fairly large crowd of gamblers.

Because we are human and we have wants and needs, there is no way that some form of gambling would not have been introduced.  Some of us have the programmed need to compete against another.  Someone builds a block house 10' and the next person wants to go bigger, and so on.  Because of this human nature, if there was never gambling introduced, we would not be who we are.

I can't see a reason why gambling wouldn't have been invented - some humans find the thrill of risk innately enjoyable - whereas other would be happy to provide such a service and make a profit from it. Even if it wasn't invented as early as it was - there is no reason to think it wouldn't have been invented relatively soon after anyway.

With the factor of risk being involved in anything, there is to much competition in the world not to have gambling.  Take Apple and Samsung for example; they are constantly battling against one another to bring out the next new phone devise.  Even with in these companies, they gamble against themselves bring out new models all of the time, hoping the demand is up there enough that others will dump their $500 phone that is 1 year old for the next new $500 phone that will be replaced another year later.
