5850 stuck at 700 clock/500 mem

Had a power outage last week and now my 5850 gets stuck at 700/500 clock/mem. I mine at 875/300 and that is working fine. The problem is whenever I have to power down or reboot my mining rig the 5850 goes to 700/500 and the only way to fix it is to use trixx or afterburner to reset to factory clocks. So after I reset it, it works fine. Any ideas or did the power outage screw up my card.

Trixx does a weird thing where if you start it up at stock speeds (like 1000MHz RAM), you can only adjust down to 600 or so - you have to close it and open it again, then you can adjust down some more until you finally get the speed you want. After restarting a few times and setting the final speed, you should be able to save that clock to slot 1, and set the options to start at windows startup, start minimized, and restore clocks. If it doesn't work right still, you could always try the uninstall/reinstall route.

It's probably BIOS related - the card goes to other state, I think it was DVD/UVD state but now quite sure.

Anyway if you are familiar with the process you can reflash the bios.
Be careful it's risky and you can brick your card if don't know what you are doing.

You should first give a try with uninstall and reinstall the drivers, and check your overdrive tab.

Ummm CGMINER is what I use to mine. The only reason I have to use Trixx or Afterburner is to reset the card back to its default clock and memory speeds. This only happens after a reboot or power down that the card will be stuck on 700 clock and 500 memory. So say I lose power or update a program then when the system reboots and CGMINER runs its config file it can not overclock the engine  / underclock the memory...it gets stuck at 700 / 500. So I have to manually reset the card. Restart CGMINER and everything works fine. I tried to update the BIOS and even flash with a different BIOS. Same problem.

What do you mean by reset the card? Put the card back to factory clocks? Cgminer can easily do that.

use the config file... save your overclocks in the config.... change to 0's if you want stock clocks....

Trixx and cgminer is a pointless mix IMO....

OK I guess Im not making myself clear or your not understanding......

1. I only mine using CGMINER. NOT A COMBINATION OF CGMINER AND TRIXX.....if you understand go to #2

2. I overclock my cards ONLY USING THE CONFIG FILE IN CGMINER...NOT CGMINER AND TRIXX....if you understand go to #3

3. I lost power at my house last week.....I have my comp to autopower on after power loss and CGMINER autostarts....if you understand go to #4

4. When it came back on I noticed that my hash rate was lower than it should be. I checked the settings and my 5850 was clocked lower. So I went to change the clock            settings and memory in CGMINER (using [G] then [C] then [E] then [M])and they were stuck at 700/500. Could not change them. Rebooted my comp thinking something was screwed up during boot. Same problem. Clock and memory speeds stuck at 700/500.....if you understand go to #5

5. I pulled my card and everything checked out ok no physical damage. Put it back in and powered up. Same problem clock speeds at 700/500....got it go to #6

6. Downloaded Afterburner and Trixx to see if I could overclock it. Nothing. Stuck at 700/500. So I hit the reset button and the clock speeds changed back to default 725/1000....following now???

7. Start GCMINER (alone not a combination of CGMINER-trixx/afterburner) and everything works fine. Clocks are back at 875/300. Everything is OK

8. Reboot computer and problem comes back...clock speeds stuck at 700/500. Ok here is the part your not getting.....I start TRIXX, reset my card back to its default settings. Shut down TRIXX. Start CGMINER and everything is OK.

Dude, you wrote a storybook to answer a couple simple questions.

1. make sure your PC is set to High Performance in Windows. Instead of Balanced in power options.

2. backup your cgminer.conf..

3. delete entire cgminer directory

4. upgrade to newest cgminer 2.9.1 I believe is the latest. replacing the cgminer.conf in the directory prior to starting.

5. make sure no other programs are starting with windows that may affect your clock speeds.... (Trixx or whaetver else)

6. If all else fails.... Set up a bootable usb drive with ATIflash and find the original bios for your card.

I had a 5830 that was stuck @ 300mhz core.... just locked it self for some reason. I did end up flashing it with the original bios and it seemed to fix it. BUT that card did croak after some time.. It became unstable and would crash windows every time I tried to use it as a boot up card..

force the flash..... But first make sure the bios you're using is the identical one...

IMO It's better for you to wait till the end of the month (price halving) and then try to flash the card. If it's Reference design you can use this guide with -f switch. You can download appropriate bios file from here
