I can't wait for the day that the BTC symbol replaces the dollar symbol on my keyboard. Everyone will be using bitcoin by then. This is the start of the whirlwind to main street, when it gets integrated into the established systems like unicode.
Whoever mines the block which ends up containing your transaction will get its fee.

LOL
How will we code if we have no $ sign on our keyboards?

Does it mean we will be able to use it on Android smartphones too? Because im really slow at digital typing and I hate to put "BTC" all the time. I would love to just press on a symbol so people know im talking about BTC. Saves a lot of time and is way more stylish than using 3 big letters. No one says USD 1000 when you can say $1000 right.

U+20BF is now official. It's just a matter of time before the font maintainers put it in their fonts. I'm guessing very soon.

U+20BF is now official. It's just a matter of time before the font maintainers put it in their fonts. I'm guessing very soon.

Unicode 9.0 will be released in June, so you probably won't see official fonts released before then. If you just want a font to play around with, luke-jr has made a font with the Bitcoin symbol in its official place here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3refb4/btc_symbol_added_to_droid_and_console_fonts/

In any case, thank you to the bitcointalk.org participants who helped me with the proposal - the original thread is here if you're curious: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1170902
