On this day in 1775, the United States raised its two battalions of United States Marines. The birth place is said to be a bar called the Tun Tavern in Philly. The USMC is the only military force in the United States directly controlled by the president, Also know as America's 911 force, no pun intended. The Marines are the first major forces of the United States to Deploy and the last to leave. Only 1% of the United States can ever claim the title of U.S. Marine.
