Hi folks,

I need some help with the DIY home adapter for HP server DPS 800GB A PSU

I look at the diagram located here and internet, and made the short between pin 32 and 33, like pictures i attached. And i made holes in the + and - sections to put a screw and cables with Pci-e conectors.

If i turn on the PSU without cables it goes well, green led turn on and 12v is in the + and - pins

But seems like when i put the screw and the cables, that it make like circuit short, so i take the tester and put the tester cables in +and -, and when the screw is on it, it sounds, like cont. is in it...

I tried with 2 differente PSU new brand, to discard and the same thing, something im doing wrong...

Any idea?

attach 1 nut on the positive  attach 1 nut on the neg

no cable,

turn it on if it runs:

take 1 pcie you built  and attach  it.

attach the nuts that are furthest apart

pos   pos              neg  neg

I think you may find that there are tracks running on some inner layers of the PCB that you cannot see. So when the screws are in you are creating a short from those inner tracks and the + & - Connections. If I am right you are lucky that the PSU is still working even with the screws removed.

If you have a multimeter make some resistance measurements and confirm what I have said. Most people either use a proper breakout board or just solder directly to the + & - edge connections.

Thanks for the replys.

Inner layers really dont know... also because others pals are running the PSU using screws throught the PCB..

But, im going to try, using another coin of screw.. and then post again

Thanks all!!

They may just have been lucky, dependant on exactly where the holes were drilled, size of the hole & size of the screws etc? What you have said though is that with the screw out there is no short & with the screw in there is a short. So either there is a problem with your cables or with the screws. Have you tried with just the screws & no cables?

Rich

also nylon screws

if the bolts you used are shorting inside the holes the nylon screws should not.

After that, if everything OK i upload some pictures, so we can search it in the forum later
