Just over 1 month old and Gemini has already made to the Top 10 bitcoin exchange by volume according to bitcoinity.org.I believe that it would be competing with the top 3 chinese exchanges soon.

There was an article a couple of weeks back, just after they launched I think, that went on about how low their volumes were.

It takes time to build up volumes but I'm sure Gemini will be one of the major players in months to come. Whether it will surpass some of the Chinese exchanges I don't know as the volumes on there can go bonkers.

They are one of the most promising OPEN exchanges, especially in the professional side of Bitcoin.

Don't worry, they will justify their potential especially when all that institutional money starts pouring in and this will be very soon. That's why they are a very important exchange for Bitcoin. These people are just used to doing business like this, these big Wall Street players, and we need an exchange like Gemini that is ready for them!

I don't think any 'proper' exchange will ever compete with the Chinese ones. They're a law unto themselves.

When you take into account regulatory compliance, marketing and image there really aren't that many premier league exchanges. Quite a few have come and gone and there are solid ones which never really went anywhere. The Winklevii had the advantage of a platform to make plenty of noise before Gemini got rolling so it shouldn't be surprising that it's on the rise.

I doubt they will surpass okcoin, huobi and btcchina, but they could very well be on nr. 4 of the top list of the exchanges.
It's not that they lack the professionalism or legal aspects, it's just that the interest isn't as high as it is on eastern side of the world, but that may chance very fast as well.

Gemini is a regulated service. It will not run away with your coin. Your money is deposited in a third party bank, Gemini does not have access to it.

They will climb and their custommer count will go up as soon as they allow traders from other countries to join the party. If after 1 year their volume doesn't increase significantly and stays stable throughout the months, then there simply isn't enough interest.

I think they will be on top 5 in some months, but competing with the biggest chinese exchanges will be hard, chinese exchanges move a lot of volume.

I am not surprised about the performance and success of gemini exchange because people can do business with them without any fear of what they encounter with mtgox because their funds are insured by fdlc.

Somebody put in a order to buy up to $220 yesterday, but he put in $2200 instead mistakenly. The execution  was reversed  soon after.

I think that it is good for the bitcoin in generally, more exchanges higher competition and probably less exchange fees.

They are faking their volumes, just like Mt.Gox did in 2013. Too many inside trading, no real traders there. Remember their scandal last week, they cancelled completed trades.

Yes, I didn't like how they have reversed those trades. I think that wasn't fair toward people that were involved in those trades and that actually got good deals out of it.

But where did you get from that they are faking their volumes? Their volumes are already small enough. If  you have some other informations, please share it with us. Or you are just talking from the top of your head?

i dont like the trade reversal too, but AFAIK they are obligated to do so. and we can be sure they dont fake their volume and that the owners dont trade their temselves...

^ all of that comes with regulation ;-)
