How do I get my coins out of cold storage and into BTC-e?

I have my BTC in cold storage/on a Long-term storage paper wallet.  I have (and protect with my life) the private key for that.  I would like to transfer my coins out of cold storage into BTC-e and set up an autosell point, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Import the private key into a Bitcoin client, create an account on BTC-e. Get an address for BTC-e where you can deposit.
Send from your client to the deposit address.

A bitcoin client is a bitcoin wallet you run locally on your computer, like Electrum. Here is a guide to importing private keys into Electrum.

I don't know if they're better, but I prefer using desktop Bitcoin clients.
Take a look at Bitcoin-qt or Electrum.
Electrum might be a lot better for you because you won't have to download the entire blockchain

Coinbase AFAIK, does not allow direct import of private keys. Blockchain.info is very inconsistent and you are risking your BTC if you're going to use it. Electrum as they said are relatively safe but I would go for mycelium and use the cold storage spending feature, if you have IOS or android. Mycelium also support BIP38 decryption.

Not directly, no. There's zbar though. I think by default, electrum can only generate QR codes.
