Here is another post I found online where they are just taking turns trashing bitcoin, calling it child porno currency and mocking people who use it as idiots.

http://www.reddit.com/r/ShitRedditSays/comments/132jt7/meta_if_reddit_does_choose_to_accept_bitcoin_it

How can this sort of attitude be overcome? It wouldn't take long before the media makes bitcoin become synonymous with that. It seems whenever I hear it meant in public there are a lot of replies like that.

A remarkably similar "tone" as from those who've been slagging gold since the low triple digits...

Maybe BTC will go to zero but IMHO it's worth taking a chance on and learning about at the very least.  I'm hopefully buying my inaugural humble little "tranche" tomorrow.

Oh and by the way, I mentioned BTC to two guys I work with.  Both are pretty sharp, have run and are running small home-based businesses on the side, one is quite a savvy "market" trader.  After discussing it over breaks and their research on their smart phones for a couple of hours, one is signing-up with VirtEx and "buying in", while the other is really interested in taking a different approach and investing in mining rigs.  They both see something significant in the whole concept virtually at first glance.  Just thought I'd throw that in there as I was quite surprised at the opposite reaction (compared to some referenced in the Reddit link) from a couple of people that are not daft by any stretch.  Or maybe they're just as nuts as the rest of us, beats me...  Wink

Why even bother taking note of such people? They're either trolls, people who weren't taught to think critically, or children. When they start attempting to actually make sense to anyone other than themselves, then maybe we'll have a decent reason to make mention of them. It's best to ignore that particular brand of stupid.

The best way is to use it for everything but that. Using your coins to buy computer parts, games, gift cards, and other normal online purchases is going to be the best option.

It gets people who sell those things to notice. Gets them to start accepting Bitcoin. One Bitcoin is out in the open and popular there will be no more talk like that.

Best to just ignore it.  I mean it would be like trying to debate civil rights at a Klan rally.  It is just pointless.  If you find someone who has genuine arguments against Bitcoin (likely due to misinformation or lack of complete information) that is where a debate on the merits "might" pay dividends.

BTW SRS is essentially a trolling subreddit where members make themselves feel superior by making fun of others.  They aren't looking to be informed, they aren't looking to debate bitcoin on the merits.

Paraphrased:
You: "Bitcoin is ......."
SRS1: "Your a poop"
SRS2: "LOLZ LOLZ LOLZ"
SRS3: "He said poop".

etc

Just don't waste your time.  If you really want to advocate for Bitcoin you are going to get a bigger bang for the buck in places like hackernews, slashdot, arstechnica, gawker, etc.  Better yet offer something for sale (goods or services) in Bitcoins.

It's a good think to have a community of haters. Every successful project has community of haters around Smiley More they hate, the better.
