1. I think you should try first. There are some tutorials in that topic. Then, If you have some difficult reply the topic asking about your doubts. Of course someone will help you.

2. Well... There are many ways to stop bots: Blocking TOR navigator, blocking proxy servers, real anti-bot links, enhancing  the complexity to calim in your faucet, adding extra security as a captcha, using CloudFlare...

3. For me, the best way to block bots is combining the techniques above.

4. It depends on the technique you want to implement. Most of them are implemented in PHP you into your htaccess file.
