Notwithstanding the fact that I'd always prefer a local, native wallet over a web solution.

What would you people consider to be the best mobile friendly web wallet? It should be able to scan QR codes with webcam.

I'm familiar with the blockchain.info wallet which meets the criteria, but with all the security fuss, I'd hardly recommend it. However I've tried several others and they all seem to lack proper mobile support (e.g. non responsive website or no ability to scan QR).

Curious to hear about other people's suggestions and experiences!

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Have you tried Mycelium? They support QR scanning and I prefer their security. I haven't tried any other wallet so it's the only I can recommend.

Yes, I love Mycelium and use it all the time. Except I'm now also looking for a web wallet.

Have you tried Coinbase android wallet? Their UI is fantastic but it doesn't allow control of private key nor any transactions violating their TOS. Second choice is greenaddress.it. It does allow the control of their multisig keys and have security features.

AFAIK for security reasons hardware access (e.g. camera, bluetooth etc.) is not permitted for web code running in a browser!

I think this will depend on the platform you use. For iOS, the wallet would probably have to support uploading pictures of qr codes for it to work. Android is probably more flexible on this and you can trigger a camera scanner via a web page (or if you can't, you can probably at least hack it together).

I don't know if any web wallets allow what you're looking for but your best bet is to create an account on all these wallets (if you haven't already) and try them out.

In my opinion, best choice for web wallet is blockchain.info. You controll your keys there and you can sign message. There was some threads about it is unsecure but i never had any problem with. I guess lot of ppl byte on phishing scam sites and give credentials to scammers so you allways make sure you are on right place before signing in.

Interface looks pretty good, clean, accessible and user-friendly. But how do you mean web wallet for Android and Windows Phone, and iOS coming soon? The reason I was inquiring about a web wallet was that it's independent of the OS or platform (i.e. works on anything with a browser).

By the way, I tried it on Android and OS X, but there seems to be no support for scanning QR through my webcam? This makes it very difficult to do 'on the spot' locations, as in someone else showing me their address or payment request on their device, and me paying them from mine.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Mycelium is the most secure & has a wide plethora of options with which you can buy, sell, secure, import/export, and most importantly, QR deposit/withdrwawal.  Just don't forget your 12 words & PIN - I've done that twice already...luckily after I withdrew 90%.  Still, that 10% gone forever ;_;

Nope, http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/05/crypto-flaws-in-blockchain-android-app-sent-bitcoins-to-the-wrong-address/. Oh and nope! http://blog.blockchain.com/2014/12/08/blockchain-info-security-disclosure/

Mycelium has a few central servers which would have the potential of them executing a sybil attack or disconnect users from the network. This isn't a perfect app, Bitcoin Wallet lacks the use of hardware wallet which isn't perfect either. But for more privacy, use mycelium, for more features, use Mycelium they have localtrader, trezor and ledger wallet spending.
