I was just thinking there are two formations of the chess board.
The one I use is:
♖♘♗♔♕♗♘♖
♙♙♙♙♙♙♙♙

♟♟♟♟♟♟♟♟
♜♞♝♛♚♝♞♜

I was thinking of using this for some market research for a gambling low risk application.

Not sure what your intent is here but there is only ONE way to set up a chess board.

Actually, the formation should be (from black's perspective):

♖♘♗♔♕♗♘♖
♙♙♙♙♙♙♙♙
        |
        |
        |
        |
♟♟♟♟♟♟♟♟
♜♞♝♚♛♝♞♜

That is, Kings (and Queens) on the same file.

In relation to the poll question, I can't say I've ever seen a configuration with the Knights on the outside - and, to the best of my knowledge, that isn't used in official tournaments.

According to the Laws of Chess this is the correct order for a chess board setup.

I have seen the option for this an many apps and video games. Soem people have even set up my chess board in that way and I have hadd to change it in order to put the "knights" and "castle" in the correct place.

Hmm, from Black's perspective? Notice the colors on the pieces (particularly easy to tell on the King).

I suppose it can be a popular variant, of some sort - but I've honestly never heard of it before. Smiley

EDIT: perhaps, something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_chess_variants?

This is the conventional setup order that you have in the OP, but there are variants. 960 chess, Fischer chess I think. These are based on random placement of the pieces on the back ranks. Also there´s Horde Chess where one side has the standard pieces  and the other has 32 pawns. Maybe there´s more. These are fringe variants I guess but still interesting.
