like i said they are a bit insignificant(as a numbers of people) so banning or not, it won't do much, what it really matter aside from banning is how many are actually interested in using bitcoin there

i'm sure not so much even before the banning attempt, so there is not a tangible impact of a possible ban...

It's good then, by the why restricts someone to use Bitcoin is useless.
Regardless of how they would still be able to use them, unless if the government Banned the internet.

Taiwan is not really a major player in the Bitcoin game so this doesn't really mean anything. Banned or not banned it doesn't affect the Bitcoin community. This is also very weird coming from Taiwan. 1 minute they ban it and the next minute people are saying it is not banned, what is going on.

It doesn't matter if they are major player in Bitcoin or not. Important is that this is an official statement that shows that taiwan is open for new technologies like Bitcoin. Every country being open for Bitcoin and crypto is a possibility to grow in terms of adoption and acceptance. Each step in every country is important because as a whole it could mean a lot to us.

if this supposed email from taiwan regulator to coindesk is true.. that no actual regulatory changes have happened and the 2013 decision remains..

then this is what i have been saying about most 'banned' countries.. only the banks themselves cannot offer bitcoins directly to customers.
though the independant/private bitcoin buyer and seller do not have any regulatory oversight, and thus free to trade.

i would still remain cautious if you suddenly want to operate a business where fiat is handled as regulations may affect you.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

Hope they don't say it isn't banned just so they can ban it again.
It's starting to look like Russia and China from a year ago, when they were banning Bitcoin every other week.

Seemed strange to me the ban of bitcoin in this almost country when read it and it was more strange the reason that made that official to declare its ban. Seemed more a fast and unthinked well declaration, which seemed that wanted more to cover the failure in the solve fully of the case of chantage had by one rich person, than something created after multiple and extensive discussions had from the various responsible Authorities. The above news give reason to my thoughts. Cannot be banned bitcoin in a tiny "village" of big China when China is the biggest market of the production and the trading of bitcoin. Cannot have such courage the Taiwanese Authorities. So, go bitcoin and end of story about this new "ban" of it.

How can you say that? With a total Population of : 23.46 million people and huge night markets and street-food vendors, it is ideally suited for Bitcoin. If they replace the New

Taiwan dollar with Bitcoin tomorrow, most of us would be millionaires.  Grin ....Never underestimate the power these small countries might have on Bitcoin.

I for one hope, places like these would seriously look at Bitcoin and acknowledge what positive influence it will have on their economy, when they do accept it and 1000's of

Bitcoin tourists starts flocking to there shores.  Wink

Meh, this is an understatement. Any player in the game is substantial in the growth of bitcoin so saying that Taiwan isn't a "major" player and wouldn't affect bitcoin is pretty much "wrong." Mass adaption starts from small acceptance in stores and flourish from there. Wink Also, Taiwan clearing out the supposedly "banning" of bitcoin is great because it gives room for acceptance in their country.

I agree, everyone is important, no matter how small or big they are. It comes to my mind that they have maybe realized that that are making a mistake, their regulators and that they have acted maybe a bit hasty.

After all if you have big countries like China, EU, US not banning Bitcoin, why would you ban it? If these big guns are not banning it, maybe there is some that we as a country and regulators might miss out!

At least I hope that this is the case!

Bitcoin is only banned or illegal in three countries - Taiwan has never been one and it's great to get this further confirmation.

As I had the insider's viewpoint (been living in Taiwan for years) I could tell from the beginning that it was a huge joke. This declaration was based on nothing, and the media made it big because that's what Taiwanese media does: they make huge headlines out of small, uninteresting stuff.
It's good to have an official confirmation but I never really believed anything would come true about it. It's just the story of an official who wanted to get the cameras to turn to him, and cameras that turned to him because they wanted stuff to talk about (apart from advertising for restaurants and food, which is Taiwanese media does 90% of the time).

On the other hand, Taiwan can also be very conservative, sometimes. Though not Taipei, the capital city. There definitely is a market for bitcoin in Taipei (and that's like 5 million people or so). But it's not use trying to touch the rest of the Island for the moment. Too conservative. We'll need more time for that.

So some people made up more FUD and the source that was a Taiwan web site was just bull
Thanks for clearing that up finding a lack of confirmation in mainstream media besides the Bitcoin related newsfeeds was making me skeptical about this.

There's one thing about today's generation of internet that news from one part can fly away in other in no time, but this time it became a problem.
We recently heard about kidnapping of a billionaire and asking for ransom. Now, every good thing has some evil enemies. So is the case with bitcoins.
People who are standing against bitcoins spread rumours about bitcoins being banned in Taiwan, whereas nothing like this had happened. Its clearly been stated by Taiwan's FSC that bitcoins is still legal and can be used in the country. The reason behind all these wind blowing rumours is well known to all. It's the nature of bitcoins which makes these people jealous.
