Hi

I remeber reading a thread where someone wanted to buy BTC for cash at below market rate and people said he could do it by making an order with some company (coinbase or knc or something). Can anyone tell me how that is done?

Thanks!

Put an ad on Localbitcoins to buy bitcoins. Someone that wants to sell their bitcoins will come to you and pay a premium for the convenience.

Local bitcoins may be your best bet. You may even find some people locally you can meetup with.

Make sure you take a gun or at least be prepared because there has been a number of stories about people getting mugged for their bitcoin's or cash.

Yikes.  That doesn't sound good.  I guess good thoughts are to meet in a public place with some friends near by then at least?  I would also say if you are dealing with lots of coins it might just be better to pay a little more and get them from a safe place.

localbitcoins, itself is not that bad..

but thinking logically.. people wanting to only trade for cash in hand, is a bit shady. so be careful with those types of transactions

Just to state what should be obvious, there is a reputation system on localbitcoins and you can easily choose to just favour established traders.    Someone who wants to swap cash and has never been seen before is obviously quite iffy.   Its very easy to opt for somebody whose traded hundreds of times before and will be happy to communicate and answer any questions beforehand, its not really a benefit to them to risk trouble

Do a test trade for small amount. Dont meet someone and ask for a 20 BTC transaction or something first off lol.  Another idea is to meet a few different peeps for small amounts, split the risk.  Public place always.

which is exactly why i never use localbitcoins i just dont feel safe with it. I'd rather just buy from coinbase and pay a couple dollars over market.

That's ridiculous. Common sense is enough. Don't get into a car with a stranger.

Really? Dealing in cash is shady? How about this:
