I work at a cloud computing company and the other day I was talking with someone at work about Github and C++ but when I mentioned Bitcoin they had no idea what it was, so I showed it to them and explained everything. I have been watching Crytpocurrencies for a while and I do believe that they, along with various altcoins, will become global standards and possibly even take the place of national currencies in some places. For example, in Argentina Bitcoin has, at times, been more stable than the local fiat currency.

The sad part about your story is that you talked with your co-worker and you are working for an IT company. And he didn't know what Bitcoin is?
That is really disappointing to hear. I thought that people linked to IT field at least heard some basic info about bitcoin.

It is not yours the desire that some day the cyptocurrencies become a globally known and become even national currencies. There are threads which discuss more about this desire of to many people which like bitcoin and wonder one kind of "bitcoin coin" as a national currency in every or most of countries worldwide. But first the cryptos must resolve one their big defect which is the volatility. No one (except the most devoted followers) cannot accept to accumulate bitcoin or even use regularly it if its price go up and down like it has been the last two weeks. Maybe bitcoin is, at times, more stable than the local fiat currency in Argentina, but I found the move of price of this last currency for the last 5 months. Have a clear tendency of increase (with only a gap in the time when bitcoin was in the phase of increase and decrease) these last 5 months, when bitcoin was almost stable. Even this specific showed by bitcoin can be considered as an achievement, it would be better that bitcoin has the same behavior like the currency of Argentina.

Yeah. I would think that someone that worked in the IT field would know something about Bitcoin. Even I know about Bitcoin and I do not even work for an I company. I guess some people have a more widespread knowledge about this kind of stuff while others have a less wide knowledge but they are better in one section of IT other than cryptocurrencies.

Very weird, but I have seen some one post the exact same stuff as OP did now, a few weeks or perhaps a month back. It was also about him working at a cloud cumputing website and so on. The usage of words are nearly identical.

Yes. Cryptocurrencies could become the future but I do not think that it will overtake fiat. People are too dependant on fiat and I doubt that they would be willing to just give that up. Also, Bitcoin is an investment for some people and if the price becomes stable we could lose some of the Bitcoin users. At this point, the price of Bitcoin is not going to stabilise anytime soon, so we might be waiting a long time before Bitcoin overtakes fiat and I doubt that will ever happen.

Could be bots that recycle older posts to bump their post count. It looks like a legit post, and if it is old enough, hardly anybody notices it.

Note sure if this is like that, but could explain some stuff.

ok lets grammar check everyone.
the word cryptocurrencies is abolished.. its now blockchain currencies.

blockchain explains the technology behind bitcoin and all the other altcoins.
words such as crypto seem geeky and not mainstream friendly
words such as digital, virtual dont explain the difference between bitcoin or paypals computer based funds..

so get use to using the word blockchain currencies when generally describing the category of bitcoin and altcoins.

So sad to hear that your co workers do not know about bitcoin even thet work in an IT company.
Bitcoin is hovering everywhere now a days and a website also linked bitcoin to the recent IS attack on Paris by saying that those attackers recieved about 3 million dollars in bitcoins.

So its kind of strange that they haven't heard of bitcoin till now.

Please stop spreading that FUD posted as click bait. Nobody has made any official announcement that it was real and it seems as though it could just be a shill posting. Even if it is

real, it would make no difference. Terrorist have used ALL the other payment methods and currencies to fund terrorism and none of them were banned because of that.

Most funding are done through banks and with GEMS like diamonds.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Bitcoin is great, but adoption is very low. Even among tech guys  Undecided.

Perhaps we should focus more on talking about it to our technological friends/relatives. It can be somewhat messy or not so easy for someone who does not much about computers. But should be easy for someone who does.

If we're all over the shock that the OP's coworker in IT didn't know what Bitcoin was, what was the OP's question?

of course Bitcoin is far better than currency. The most simple explanation could be the one saying that bitcoin empowers everyone to be their own Bank and that Bitcoin is a decentralized currency which no central bank or government institution can control.

you did a very good job by telling them about bitcoin because btc is the mostly used digital currencies and it has a high volatility.

haha, you got the point, people who dont like the volatility and many more things that they think is related to bitcoin problems, should look at wall street.... im pretty sure they will be surprised Tongue

btw you did very well @zoucongda, maybe some day, not only you, but many others on his company's, could be paid with bitcoin, i'm sure that the time is coming Wink

I remember as well that there was nearly or exactly the same post. The thing that striked me was the story about the IT guy that supposedly never heard of Bitcoin. I thought right away, how the heck is this possible?

So about the post, is it possible that they are writing such bots now which are recycling old posts? What a heck are people ready to do in this world just to make a buck or two!!
