Don't see any evidence of buying and selling of goods. But RMB are being traded for bitcoin.
This US-based taobao seller (chinese Ebay) has sold 90000 yuan worth of bitcoin. In USD that is around 14-15k. Number of BTC depends on when they were purchased (I don't know).
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10534729264The post below explains how move from RMB to LRD via Gold2ex using 支付宝 to pay (this is a Chinese PayPal affiliate) and then LRD to BTC via mt.gox. Apparently, the process is reversible allowing BTC to be converted to RMB.
http://sexy-bitcoin.com/t/25These are great developments, but it would be much better to see a low-fee china-based exchange set up, so that bitcoin could be used for USD->RMB remittances.
I have had to use Western Union to receive remittances in China before, and the fees are ridiculous.
