Police report another homicide within hours of reaching 300
Former mayor Martin O’Malley faces questions over crime

Baltimore’s homicide toll for 2015 reached what police commissioner Kevin Davis called a “sad” milestone of 300 over the weekend.

The announcement came on the same day that the former Baltimore mayor and Maryland governor Martin O’Malley saw the issue of crime in the city rebound on him in the Democratic presidential debate.

In an exchange onstage in Des Moines, Iowa, O’Malley said both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, whom he trails by some distance in polls, were not strong enough on gun control issues.

Sanders noted the announcement of the 300th homicide of the year as he retorted: “I think it’s fair to say that Baltimore is not one of the safest cities in America.”

With this being the reality, you'd think these "BlackLivesMatter" protesters would be marching and chanting in the black neighborhoods, but no, they do so at restaurants, college libraries, political events...

Wow, that is staggering. Since we´re so focused on the mass murders in France; the Baltimore rate would correspond to about 30,000 homicides in that country, the reality is under 1,000. I´m having a one minute of silence for the people of Baltimore in Maryland, U.S.A.

Sad news indeed.

I wonder how this relates per capita to other US cities.

Baltimore has a 2014 est. population of: 622,793...so the 300 homicides equals 0.04% per capita.

According to this Wikipedia site (link below), in 2014 Baltimore ad 34 murders per 100,000 ppl (so 210 for a population of 622,793). So yeah, this is a boom. Although they may not consider all homicides as murders.

From the same source Baltimore ranks 6th for the most violent crimes per 100,000 population. This new announcement may bump them up a spot in the ranking, unfortunately.

Wow and we still have a month and a half to go but I suspect, with winter eventually coming alive, that this rate may slow down. Then again, the constant inner city drug violence problems know no bounds. I feel bad for these homicide detectives because even though they have plenty of job security, they often work extremely long hours back to back and the consistency of this leads to issues w/ their spouses or even being able to take on a special friend to begin with. Money can't buy happiness when you have no time to enjoy it and you're always on call.

I'm from Europe but i herad nd read about Baltimore. One of my favorite serials is "The Wire" Baltimore drug scene, seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement. When I hear something like this I start to ask my self is it safer to walk in some African town, or in US? How many more towns are there similar to Baltimore? Crazy things happening in this world and differences between rich and poor are bigger and bigger, this is one of main reasons why this kind of things happening.

During the crips vs. bloods gang wars in the 1990's my home city of St.Louis was the murder capitol. We had about 400 murders per year. Every summer night was filled with the sounds of shootouts. It was almost always criminals killing criminals. Since concealed carry started it has dropped way off. No crook snatches purses in a place where little old ladies carry .357 magnums.

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

Well finally with murder 295. the mayor & police commissioner admitted it was black drug gangs killing mostly other members of black drug gangs with many innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

BUT still the mayor's primary focus is on retraining the police force in "politically correct" procedures, before going all out after these black drug gangs. In fact the Department of Justice is doing the training, as if they ever patrolled any streets, but are quick with solutions.

Baltimore, a city of 600,000 now has over double the murder rate then New York, a city with a population of 8.5 million. Does anyone, besides me, think that this Mayor & other leaders of Baltimore are completely insane, not to face the real problem?
