Nah, not really. Just they're bored of enormous amounts of money and they don't know what to do with their lives. Then they discover new "interesting" things to them.

Then they get sucked into cults where people praise the dark side. This way their egos boost over 9000!

Also, don't forget that Hollywood makes money by spreading fear with all "Devil will get you if you don't follow the rules".
