Are HDD minable alt coins profitable at all?

Had anyone tried mining HDD Proof of Capacity coins such as Burst, Sia, or StorjcoinX? Can anyone confirm if mining one of these is profitable at all? Because I have checked Burst's mining profitability with the provided mining calculator, but so far it isn't profitable to mine it at all. You will end up spending more on a hard drive than you would on getting a ROI. Any hints on this?

Burst was decent but storage mining is way too centralized considering how some businesses have massive amounts of storage at their disposal.

And the problem with decentralized storage like Storj is that it requires decent upload bandwith which is an issue for most people.

Exactly. I was thinking of such a coin, perhaps an improvement on Burst's mining algorithm (like Burst 2.0)? Reading speed and storage go hand in hand depending on how much data we're talking about. And if the data is so little that it can fit into a ramdisk while most people have 4-8 GB of RAM then servers with hundreds of gigs are way ahead again and we'll end up using GPU memory for it pretty fast.

How about using the Wifi speed combined with HDD space and speed. The more faster is your internet connection, the more you will mine and the same way goes to your HDD with speed and space. A crypto like this would be pretty neat. Anyways, there is still much to be improved on Burst and other Proof of Capacity coins.

well yes i'm not trying to solve the problem for casual miners to have a chance of mining, but i'm trying to minimize it, when you compare it to sha256 it should be better, right?
otherwise which is the best algo that can help casual mining?

This. I always imagined someone at a huge tech facility or something similar installing burst and mining the sh*t out of it for free, then dumping the coins at a peak. Some sites have so much storage its insane. Its basically a HDD botnet exploit that anyone with access to the right gear can crush with ease.
