Dunno about attacks, I've been mining @ 600 Mh/s against it for approx. 12 to 24h.

That's also why I prefer giving away test coins than having people generate them, makes my testing faster

On my osx, I ran terminal to get to the bitcoin directory, ran it with ./bitcoin -testnet
