You should get yourself a bullshit detector.

If you get scammed and don't learn from your mistakes, then it's kind of your problem.

rule 1
do not trade with anyone you do not know or do not have the address of, to slap them with a wet fish, should they do you wrong.

rule 2
holding bitcoin is in itself a better investment plan then investing with third parties. thus the only trust you need is with yourself to hold

rule 3
if you do not know or trust someone or some business you are trading with, do not hand over more then you are prepared to lose

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Yes, this is an issue. Sure it is safe to order from known retailers, but if they are unknown and have no reviews, you are at risk, beacuse you cannot get your money back,

More scam? Comparing to what? If you're comparing to fiat, I bet there are more people trying to get other's fiat than people trying to get other people's Bitcoin...

Every currency can get you scammed. Thats why you should use escrow for every transaction, no matter how big/small the transaction is.
For bigger transactions you should use multi-sig with an/multiple escrow, that would ensure you that the escrow wont run away with your btc.

It's easy for scammers to start new website or service and run away with the investments. how many scammers are now really caught by the authorities. It's hard for new people to find good investments when all this scammers can easy walk away with.

i like bitcoin

low fee but more scam

what about scammer ?

Where have you found this rebus? It's ok and understandable the part of your like about bitcoin. The same can be told about the fees which are low (even the miners have begun to give problems in this direction). But why the low fees must bring more scam? Which is the connection between the low fee and the scam. This cannot be understood by me. I appreciate your help in order to make more detailed comment. As for what about scammer this is easy to find. The scammer must be put in jail. If the Authorities will be able to be in touch with him.

I get more nuisance telephone calls trying to scam me than attempts to scam me here, and if I was stupid enough to believe the nuisance telephone callers the consequences would be far worse for me than those from any bitcontalk scam. I had someone trying to tell me I had a virus and that I needed to give him remote control of my computer to fix it. He could have got enough information off my computer to financially finish me, and some people fall for such scams.

If you got scammed do not blame bitcoin because you can be scammed anywhere and with any currency so you have to deal with trust people and with trust sites that have perfect reputation and have good support to contact with if something went wrong

If it sounds too go to be true, it probably is.

Also, a bit of common sense gets you a long way. If you really want to invest in something, you can always try it with a little money.

It might be a hard lesson, but atleast it doesn't cost much that way.

But scammer can be anyone.
I have been scammed many times(I think I broke a bitcointalk forum record when I got scammed twice or three times on the same day xD)
I learn from my mistakes, and learnt to use a escrow.
So yea, use an escrow so you can't get scammed.

Hackers are not scammers tho. Bitcoin has an overwhelming amount of scams, specially when it comes to exchanges since they are not regulated, of course people is going to be afraid and they should because it's pretty easy for you to lose your bitcoins on exchanges, gambling websites, etc etc.

Common sense is a great deterent to scams. A few basic ideas like "nothing is free" or "if it sounds too good to be true" will get you through the day. Add to that just basic security - something that's increasingly important in the digital age. You will be alright. Be smart, it's real money.

More Scam compared to what?
Scammers are everywhere.Avoid to deal with persons you don't know. That should be the most important rule.
For online deals, especially here in the forum, use escrow service!
That's should be it I guess.
Ahh yes and of course always hold your coins in your own wallets! You hold the private keys, you hold the coins!

A rule about bitcoin:
DON'T TRUST PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW.

It is money so they will try and talk you into giving it to them and being an anonymous way to receive it, is easy way for them to get it.
Be wary of giving it to just to anyone.

I know. I always think of the lucky charms rabbit when these sites come on the forum.
"Silly rabbit tricks are for kids!"  Cheesy
Those rookies are the rabbits for those site owners. Don't they ever learn? I sposse there will always be the uninformed or the ones who don't want to spend the 2 minutes to read the fore warnings before handing over their satoshis.

Its nice you like bitcoin! You're in the right place.

I don't really understand bro, more scam compared to what? Fiat? If so sorry but I have to lol

There is scams everywhere for anything that has any kind of value its just harder to find the btc scammer so take more precautions in keeping your funds safe.

There is not much you can do about scammers except remember, "If something seems to good to be true, then it usually is" Good luck!

I don't think serious complaints are about ponzies or get rich in 1 minute type of scams. People is concerned because something that happened to mt-gox can happen again and there was no way to know.

There are lots of scammers. It is better not to trust anyone without escrow or something. What is fun is once they scam you, they come again for more using different nicknames lol.

Beware of not being greedy too. That clouds your scam detectors greatly.

There still other "method" of scamming, right? Though there are more than enough warning written on this forum about how to deal carefully with ponzi site, there still many people fall into that trap and screamed SCAM on their anger of being fooled. Maybe this is the one which OP refer to scam. If this is the case, then simply do a little research on this forum about the site you're about to invest, you'll get insight on how safe the site is in no time

Bitcoin is a irreversible currency which makes it a great target for criminal. The most you can do is only to deal with trusted people or use a third party escrow. If you do not want, create 2-of-3 multisignature address and use a neutral third party to control one of the keys, giving another one to the other party.

low fee but more scam

what about scammer ?
You have to check their reputation first before going to transaction with other people you don't know.

For more safety you can use escrow.

I think scamming is more of a threat with Bitcoin, because it's pseudo anonymous and transactions are not reversible if you did not work with escrow. There is reasons for OP to be concerned and most new users do not know about these escrow services and even if they do know about it, who can you really trust?

Some of the escrow services also scam people, if you do not do some homework to see which of them are reputable.

I think the most of scammers are from the currency exchange and lending boards. If you are not familiar with the trading procedures  and don't know how to pick up the trusted traders, I would suggest you to step away or either start with small trade you can afford to lose!

Every currency can get you scammed. Thats why you should use escrow for every transaction, no matter how big/small the transaction is.
For bigger transactions you should use multi-sig with an/multiple escrow, that would ensure you that the escrow wont run away with your btc.

ACK. There are some simple tools to support the multisig escrow process: https://coinb.in/ and a forked version at https://multisig.btcnet.eu/. All critical parts are executed in your browser. For console users Gavin documented the process using the bitcoin-core command line: https://gist.github.com/gavinandresen/3966071.

Its amazing that most people connect bitcoin to a fast and safe way to scammer, but before bitcoin paypal, payza ,and others payment processor that used fiat were scamming and keep scamming all everywhere soo put bitcoin on the top makes no sense since scammers are at online market already for several years stealling fiat, now they have one more way to scam but its at our hands to invest on such project or not.

what about scammer ?

Let's compare btc-wallet vs usd-bank
If you keep your btc in your wallet then check it after few years, you will find exactly the same amount that you left there and the probability that someone steal it is ~0.
Now if you keep your money-usd in a bank, you have fees to pay for each period / transaction / withdraw, maybe even locking your funds like Greece...etc

If you want to gamble, trade, invest in ponzi's like scheme, keeping your money in an online wallet or an exchanger then you have to assume.

Scammers in Bitcoin world is really easy to see
Don't trust me? Turn on your common sense and go to the lending sections Grin
hopefully with that common sense you can see and spot which one is a legit loan and the one who will run away with your money
It's that easy to spot scammers Wink

Not only the bitcoin payments are irreversible out there. You may know about perfect money, okpay etc which are also irreversible. So it is not wise decision to say bitcoin being used to scam. Smart people buying with trusted and known retailers and using escrow to deal with unknown people don't ever get scammed with bitcoin.

Online wallets can easily be hacked and it's nothing different from fiat cash in bank accounts. Because few people associate this currency with crime and scams, it doesn't make the currency bad. People misuse gold and dollars as well which haven't ruined their name.

Unfortunately the price could have gone to 1$ so I dont see much benefit there. Storing bitcoins for years is not a very good idea and the probability of steal may not be high in your wallet but you will eventually have to do something with those bitcoins and the chances start increasing every time you are depositing to an exchange or site.

Storing fiat for years is a really bad idea. You will lose most of your money because of inflation. With Bitcoin nobody forces you to sent your money to a third party without any safeguard like multisig-escrow. It's your choice and your responsibility. With fiat you have no choice.

Yes, but with Bitcoin we have tools to make life much harder for the scammer. It's the free choice of the people to not use those tools and to become the victim of a scammer.

I guess OP is saying that with Bitcoin, scam attempts are more prone due to its pseudonymity. It does represent a problem since it isn't recognised as a legal currency by countries yet and if you get scammed, it is impossible to get it back. As it grows, I won't be surprised to see more of such things. Bitcoin multisig escrow is trustless but it needs a neutral party and takes a long time for the transaction to complete.

The thing is though in most cases if you have been legitimately hacked (and not casually given someone you're password to commit fraud - which is stupid because it's easily traceable) the bank is willing to reimburse you're losses. Bitcoin is the exact opposite - if you are ever hacked - you're completely screwed, there is no recourse, no one who will help you.

It s not so hard to avoid scams. All you need to do is use your brain and ask questions. If people fail to answer your questions or provide some BS response, something like, "nah, we cannot show you photos our cloud mining farm cause it s high tec", you just pass on it. No transparency, NO MONEY. Your common sense is the best bullshit detector.

You have no choice? Yes you do, with fiat you can pick trusted websites that are regulated and won't scam you. Bitcoins on the other hand, how many websites are regulated that use bitcoin? ''When you make a payment with a credit card, if later on you do not get the product that you paid for you can request a "chargeback" With bitcoins that's not possible because all the transactions are final.

Don't forget that bitcoin is still making its first steps comparing to fiat.
I don't see the fact that the irreversible btc payment is a problem, I will give an example: company x like eBay/aliexpress could be the intermediate between the buyer and the seller. Me the buyer purchased a product from a seller with or without trust rating, first i will send my payments to a btc address that the company provides and once I receive my purchase i have to confirm it else if I didn't in 60 days it will get auto-confirmed. Now confirming that I received it in a good condition is ok but if I said it isn't the case i have to resend it to the seller (like in fiat)...
Another possibility like in the play store tho, the app maker have to deposit money before advertising his app in case someone that purchased his app claim a refund. So the seller in our example have to deposit few coins  in a specific btc address of the company in case of problems. Then everything will return like a normal payment procedures, don't forget that eBay or aliexpress have everyday many unsatisfied users from their purchase.

So the seller in our example have to deposit few coins  in a specific btc address of the company in case of problems. Then everything will return like a normal payment procedures, don't forget that eBay or aliexpress have everyday many unsatisfied users from their purchase.

Of course that would work, that's how it works with fiat BUT companies that use bitcoins, including exchanges, casinos and other companies are not always regulated and therefore they can do whatever they want, of course they can tell you this and that but if you have no information about them they could end up stealing all your bitcoins and you wouldn't be able to do anything at all.

Only people who think they're over smart and are bored to read the conditions mentioned here are likely to get scammed.Despite of so many threads here on helping "spotting a scammer" or "always use an escrow" people still choose to have private transactions on skype or yahoo and get scammed.I suggest to read through this forum for about a week before getting into any transactions.

what about scammer ?

well scammer is every where digital money or not. its your choice to be more cautious or not.
im sure you can tell if someone is trying to scam you.
Bitcoin multisig escrow is trustless but it needs a neutral party and takes a long time for the transaction to complete.

yes it is, scams are prone in bitcoin but you can easily avoid it by using an escrow and just a simple asking will do to know if
the guy youre having a transaction can be trusted.

Try to be aware from the ponzi schemes and don't invest your bitcoins in such sites and you re then far from the scammers. The scammers already used Bitcoin and the other payment methods (including fiat) so it's not necessarily related about Bitcoin currency

any scam that can be done on the street with fiat can be replicated online with btc. simple as that.

if a guy downtown asks you for 10 dollars and says he will be right back in 15 minutes with 20 dollars, would you trust him, give him the money and wait for him to return with double? i doubt it. why would you trust an invisible anon online for the same? you should actually trust them less. you dont even know what they look like or what country they are in... its harder to catch them.

btc will be full of scams for a long time, just like there are always new scams using fiat. btc might actually become more scam-filled because, like i said above, its harder to trace the scammer and bring them to justice.

its the fault of unscrupulous people. not btc. the only thing you can do is be ever vigilant and trust no one

even the smartest people in the world will ever get scammed on real life or virtual world, its really hard to prevent people from being scammed even its minor problem

agreed!! but being cautious will lessen the chance of you getting scam
it is oit a bad thing to ask if the person youre having a transaction can
be trusted.

That's true there are many scammer in bitcoin world, but most scammer can be seen easily.

Actually spot a scammer is not too hard, just use your brain or ask someone if you're too lazy. Search about it on google & ask about it on forum you should able to know whether it's scam or not.
Or maybe you should use scam detector Tongue

I'm completely agree with you.. On my own experience, googling or doing a little search on this forum gives a really good understanding on how legit a site we're about to invest is. Hence, I always advise anyone to do these simple steps before investing either their btc or simply their time on solving captcha on faucet

The bitter truth about bitcoin is that we all learn about scammers after we have been scammed. We get scammed sometimes because of our ignorance and most of the time because of our greed.Bitcoin is more prone to scam because of anonymity and irreversiblitity. We should be more vigilant when it comes to spending or investing bitcoin

People in here as mentioned th ei dea of using a escrow, of course that you should always, always use a escrow! but not only a escrow, but a escrow that will enforce the borrower to deliver a valuable or relatively as valuable as the borrowed money as a collateral, everything else is a guaranteed scam.

rule 1
do not trade with anyone you do not know or do not have the address of, to slap them with a wet fish, should they do you wrong.

rule 2
holding bitcoin is in itself a better investment plan then investing with third parties. thus the only trust you need is with yourself to hold

rule 3
if you do not know or trust someone or some business you are trading with, do not hand over more then you are prepared to lose

rule 4
always trust a guy who can double your coins

What about Mt-gox? There was no way to know before hand and it can happen to more exchanges, even the most trusted ones taking in count that mt-gox was basically THE exchange for bitcoins. Bitcoins make it easier for people to scam because they can open a business, scam and then run away with almost no possibility of being traced

The only way someone gets scammed is by being stupid. Yeah Bitcoin has a low fee, but the fact that it has more scam is complete bullshit. If you could explain your topic more, I think people might understand what you are trying to say, more.

Scammers in Bitcoin world is really easy to see
Don't trust me? Turn on your common sense and go to the lending sections Grin
hopefully with that common sense you can see and spot which one is a legit loan and the one who will run away with your money
It's that easy to spot scammers Wink

Exactly. Most good scammers are trying to target your credit card, not your Bitcoin wallet. For them, they couldn't really give a shit about Bitcoin wallet, well there are some scammers on Bitcoin, but not many. It is much harder to get scammed on Bitcoin compared to your credit card.

Scammers are getting better as the time and experience they collect with every project ,we cant predict any scammer like exchanges they may turn into scam and well we wont be able to predict it,happened already in the past, the fact is that is risky to be involved  into any online project offering a return from your investment, usually banks and some companies offers this service and even them cant garantee the result.

So, what's your point exactly? ''if you invested, it was because of your own stupidity'' So everyone who used mt-gox is stupid? As I said previously, seems like you don't read, Bitcoin makes it easier for anyone to scam because it's anonymous and imposible to trace and all the transactions are final, you can't chargeback.

Mt Gox was not trusted at all. They had a few security issues including one which crashed the market. The problem with them is that they aren't solvent for a long time. The solution here is pretty simple, have a publicly verifiable hot and cold wallet so that the general public can at least be assured that the exchange is solvent. If not, audit it regularly. Many exchanges such as kraken have audits.

All in all, putting large amount of money in an exchange for a long term is a no no.

In every matter there is a pros and cons , the cons of bitcoins for you is being scammed and not get your money back , that is true but i believe that you are liable and responsible in every transaction you made with bitcoin maybe your not responsible enough so you end up being scammed, we are responsible to every transaction we make so we better check if the one whom we are transacting is legit or not.

Being scammed is a choice , since you are making a transaction with an individual you didn't even know you are aware in a risk of being scammed its your job to check whether the person you are making a transactions is legitimate , and don't ever be fooled by those advertisement that offers double and triple your money in a day or week you just end up being scammed.

Being scammed will always depend on you, as a bitcoin holder. It will depend on your carelessness and stupidity. If you're scammed, then it is not bitcoin's fault.

''was not trusted at all'' I will have to disagree with you, '' by 2013 was handling 70% of all bitcoin transactions.'' I would say that made it a pretty trusted exchange, they also blamed hackers for the dissapearing money so it's not really clear.

Depends on who the scammer is. If it's 1 single person it's best to ask for prove before you buy anything and before you pay them anything.

No relation between Bitcoin and scam, because simply the scammers use fiat and cash more than Bitcoin and scammers tried their operations before the creation of the bitcoin crypto currency as known

The fact is there are bad people no matter what money your dealing with.  Fiat or digital... there are people with greed.  Greed can make people do stupid things.

I don't think we can say one is worse then other on type.  Only thing is bitcoin some might think is worse due to media covering bad articles more then good.   Just the way most media works.

Biggest thing is if something sounds to good to be true, or too high of profit margin... chances are it is.

scamming fiat online is very hard, that's way there are more interested to scam with bitcoin and then converting, because no one can argue form where they received those coins, they can always say  that they instamined them with altcoin in the doge era...

with fiat you can't really scam, you need to scam cc details or something hard as that

Before bitcoin people used payza, liberty reserve,as others payment to scam run the famous hyip, pyramid, doublers and well those project keep running and taking money from others.Bitcoin has an advantage as we will only see where the funds are going but as soon as the funds achieve an exchange well the person can easy take out the coins into a new adress and well adress gone,no support or way to try to recover, thats why the most is avoiding have a big ammount or invest at bitcoin or even join.Scammers will always use crypto first to scam and then fiat as the risks involved are very very different.

Have no meaning to do such connections. The scammer can scam with everything and with every money. He scam there who find possibility to scam and these kind of possibilities are more out of bitcoin because ever the amount of people which are his target is bigger and have more possibility to earn more and for a log time. then have no meaning in itself to make such correlation. It is like to make guilty the bread because the bread maker has make it with expired flour.
