 I came across the forum by accident and wanted to try some mining (Newbie), read a lot of threads on here to get familiarized with the basics and decided to buy 4x Gekko Compac's. I got them today and am having a great time trying to get them setup. I have three of them working but only on my win 8.1 Laptop with cgminer - gekko  version. I have a Rpi and just cant figure this one out yet but I will eventually.

Anyway, better get back to it - lots of learning / reading needed.

There is a lot of learning on these forums.  I have been here for only a short time now, but there is a lot I have taken in.  I am even on a signature campaign where I can earn money while I learn and voice my opinion.  There are alot of smart people on here and also a number of stupid people.  You need to be careful when you are on here and like the one thread I read said, "Don't Trust People".  Unless you know them, you never know what they may try to pull on you.  Just read the threads and peoples trust comments and you will find people you can trust thought out the forum.  Good luck.

Figured i would jump in and say hi also.  I am a newbie also, just found the site by accident when I was looking for faucets once I learned about BTC.  I wish I would have learned about BTC a long time ago.  There seems to be a lot of advancements in this project and there could be a lot of money to be made. I just do not understand where the value of the coin comed from and why there are so many coins trying to copy BTC.

Hello and welcome to bitcointalk forum from here you will learn more about bitcoin. Just note that mining bitcoin with a laptop or a computer is considered impossible you need an ASIC to do that

Hello and welcome to the world of Bitcoin. Glad that you decide to start mining Bitcoin. I am not an expert in the mining field but my advice would be not to mine on your laptop. You will be paying more electricity than what you mined. If you are a Raspberry Pi fan, you might also like the new 21 Bitcoin computer. It allow you to mine Bitcoin but I would not suggest you to mine on it. I would suggest you to buy some hardware created specifically for mining Bitcoin. Anyway, what is "4x Compacts"?

Also. Beware of online cloud mining services. Those are not a good idea.

ah... gekko Compac's although the calculating speed is not much but if you want to learn more about bitcoin you can still use it to mine

Hey. If you are looking for some profit, you should not buy the stick. USB Stick is not worth investing. Like what zodiac3011 said, if you are just learning, just go ahead. I would suggest you to mine other SHA256 coin using the USB Stick as Bitcoin mining is very competitive nowadays. If you have a chance, buy some stick that can mine Scrypt. Mine some Altcoin and sell them for Bitcoin.

What part of RPI have you been having trouble with using compacs?  Have you looked in support thread its got some good info.

I use a RPI and switched to RPI2 just for fun and it works great.  I have not had any issues and it's nice to run it vs a full pc.

I hope you are mining just for fun, because otherwise you will end up dissapointed. Today mining is for professionals only, millions of $ investement in your own mine can do something, but still not guaranteed
