Understanding GPU and How to use them?

I am interested in playing in some GPU mining with other coins.  I do not know how to get started with this and where to begin when it comes to the hardware.  If I am correct, the GPU is on the video card that I would install. Any good recommendations on which card to purchase.  I am not looking to spend much, just enough to play with and see the difference in mining with a GPU instead a CPU.  I am currently playing around with BCN.

we have amd and nivida, for nvidia i would go with the 750ti if you want to try it out, if you instead need it for gaming also, you can go with the 970
then download the spv miners, which is the bgest for nvidia

for amd i would go with the 280x at least or checkingthe enw series 390x or something, and use the Wolfo miner

i just bought a cheap used AMD hd5850 for 30 dollars @ ebay..   it does most alt coins with the exception of eth coins, eth coins required a minimum of 2 GB of gddr5 ram to mined those type of coins...  an easy way to buy good video cards falls into to brands .. AMD or Nvidia ,  Amd and Nvidia uses a model number branding for an example amd 5870 or amd 280x ... the first two numbers 58 or 28 indicates it is the 2nd from top of the line because the second number 8 would bow down to the top of the line of the 5th series an amd 5970..  never buy any amd cards that are below 7 example amd hd 5650 or amd 260..  they are just to slow compared to amd hd 7700 or amd 380 or amd 6950 .. note older cards the nine like amd 6950 indicates .. x2 or dual gpu.. so remember on the model number the second digit needs to be 7 or higher !! same with a  nvidia !! a gt 670 is better then a newer gt 750 model... an gt 770 would be better .. so on nvidia the second number on the model number should be higher then 5 if you want to have decent miner..

get a few cheap 750ti's and google ccminer  , since you are new i would stick to something simple.
(there is a cryptoblog that has some good simple info on setup for you )

i would not try both amd and nvidia ... stick with one and learn it.

 you should be able to build a rig with 3 or 4 - 750ti cards in them each.
dont spend alot of money on MB, cpu and case... just try to get mb's with lots of pci-e slots to start out... you can learn about risers later

 if you can find one that has 5 pci-e slots or more...
try to leave a slot open between cards...  the spacing can save you a lot of trouble with heat issues ...
a few 80mm case fans and some hot glue also goes a long way to keeping the air moving over the cards

just make sure to buy a watt-meter so you do not blow fuses or start any fires!!!
3 x 750ti @ 60 watts each = 180watts plus another 100watts to be safe for the rest of the computer.
and you should never go more then 80% of PSU so buy at least a 500watt gold PSU
i always got 750 or 850 ... then i had room for more cards later

good luck ... but just look at it as fun ... then you might even make a few $'s

750ti is good for coins other than Ethereum. The hash rate will drop a lot when the Dag file becomes larger. For the time being, Ethereum is the most profitable coin.

These coins are AMD GPU friendly as they are Ethereum based. Shift is another Ethereum based coin to be mined. I do not know the profitability.
