right now people are just focusing on the day-to-day trading and development of bitcoins, but what exactly does it want to do in the long-term?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

It maybe gets supplanted or develops into an even better trading system requiring no medium of exchange, based only on a trust reputation system and people adopt this alternative to bitcoin system?

I really think government is going to do something with it, if bitcoin market gets big enough.
