I woke up this morning to 17 new messages on my bitcointalk account. all 17 were deleted posts. all the deleted post messages show that they came from "guest" none of them give a reason, many of the original posts are weeks old....
I dont actually get it. am i being attacked? nothing that got deleted was even slightly controversial, none of the posts were spammy or unconstructive... what unifies them is basically how innocuous they all were...
i dont have time to put all the deleted posts up here, but here are the last 3, just for a taste of whats happening...
A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by the starter of a self-moderated topic. There are no rules of self-moderation, so this deletion cannot be appealed. Do not continue posting in this topic if the topic-starter has requested that you leave.
You can create a new topic if you are unsatisfied with this one. If the topic-starter is scamming, post about it in Scam Accusations.
Quote It will certainly make arbitrage easier, and as a result stabilize the price. Of course the fat cats will manipulate the hell out of it and every hacker out there is going to target it. Interesting nonetheless. I will watch this

Quote Taringa doesn't display properly on my device, I'll have to see if it looks better when I'm at my desktop. From what I could see it looked like a bunch of copy pasta memes n stuff. No different than the other social media sites. I'll also have to do some Google translating to see how original the original content is. Maybe the paid contributors do a better job? I belong to empeopled which pays for posts, comments and up votes. It's ok. Not very big and entirely just posted links. I'd like to see the idea take off though. Especially if it would generate some actual original original content
or this...

Quote I was just reading something that mike Hearn wrote over at zapchain; “I think it's really good news that bigger financial institutions are getting involved. It lends a lot of credibility. However it's also a time limited offer: right now there's a lot of blockchain hype, but the blockchain algorithm is pretty specific to the needs of Bitcoin. It's not as generally applicable as some people like to think. So I suspect if they're mostly just looking around, some of these organisations will lose interest at some point.”
Relevant. I'm agreeing that these banks either like what they see or drop the whole thing altogether. It'll be clear which by next winter IMO
and it goes on and on.
I'm not really upset that posts were removed... past is past and you can see nothing really earthshaking has been deleted, but i am curious as to why i am being delete-bombed like this. is it some sort of attack, or is it a glitch? is this happening to anyone else?
all i can think is it is some sort of attack against signature campaigners by some butthurt user...
just the same, i feel these actions are an abuse of the system and i just wanted to make it known to the mods as well as all the other users at these forums...

Somebody is cleaning their threads. Why are people surprised by this? Anyone has the right to delete posts in their self-moderated threads regardless of age. It is happening to a lot of people right now.

Skimming your post, they were self moderated topics. The starter of the topics has the right to delete your posts in their threads for which reasons they have.
I do apologize on behalf of those people's self moderating actions. Have a good Thanksgiving.

fair enough. i did notice that they were self moderated as well. just curious as to why they would bother doing such a thing. wouldn't it be easier to simply delete the thread entirely?

Yes. I experienced this too. I logged today to see in my inbox info about deletion of some of my posts (3 to be exact). Quite unexpected and sad really, since that were some older posts from early November. Anyway, this is another reason to NOT post in self moderated topics.

Wouldn't it be easier if you just ask the person who has deleted your posts? No one else knows why he does that.

I had a post deleted by chmod too, from a thread in the press board.
Question to the mods: If there is an existing self-moderated topic, is it acceptable to create a duplicate topic which is not self-moderated? That would help avoid these kind of situations. I don't see why topics in the press board should be self-moderated.

I would say it probably would be acceptable. Duplicate threads are usually deleted otherwise.
Update: If someone is self-modding a thread then you are free to create another censor-free one. It even recommends you do that in the PM you get which is posted above.
I guess I was wrong, then we do allow duplicates. Corrected statement. I mixed something up.

Yah, I saw that and it is strange but whatever. I had something like 3 post deleted in the last few months. Two of them were for off-topic comments, & I agree with that. I've been trying not to post garbage or spam or any of that stuff. And not to troll....but it's so damn hard on this forum.

The message on deletion says A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by the starter of a self-moderated topic. There are no rules of self-moderation, so this deletion cannot be appealed... You can create a new topic if you are unsatisfied with this one. If duplicate threads are not the solution, there should be some rules for creating self-moderated threads. If one person creates only self-moderated threads, isn't there an issue? Maybe we could refine the guidelines in the Press Board. A couple of suggestions which I find worthy are I think it is important to add to the guidelines that posters in this section should not create locked or self-moderated threads. Free and open discussion of the linked articles is very important, and moderation should be left to properly authorized moderators. Self-moderation will inevitably lead to endless censorship accusations, recriminations and flames - as we have seen recently when one poster refused to eliminate the dupe post because the earlier post linking to the same article was self-moderated.
I think we could use some clarification re 'Press' section. I don't think articles from bitcoin/crypto news services (CoinDesk, Cointelegraph etc) should be posted in this board, since basically all their articles are bitcoin related. Shouldn't it be limited to mainstream or non-crypto press hits?

I guess I was wrong, then we do allow duplicates. We only allow duplicates when it's about self-moderated threads. It even says so on the top of a self-moderated thread: " This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic."

chmod755 has successfully managed to screw up campaigns which depend on post count. It would be fair to ask why chmod decided to leave his comments to other posts when he deleted their posts as the context can be impacted, the section doesn't count on Bit-X so may as well nuke them all The problem is that it did before and the Bit-X bot works on a opening post count each week. So if all your press comments are deleted it will drop your overall post count and thus have a direct impact on your post count for the signature campaign. Around 40 of my posts in this section were deleted yesterday sending me into a negative on the Bit-X bot post count. He has left his posts (even those commenting on posts that he has now deleted) so that his post count is not affected. Given that he is a legendary member, nobody expected him to pull a stunt like this. Plus he had stated that he was creating self-moderated threads only because the moderators here are not moderating properly. Do we know how many posts in total he has deleted yesterday? Most of my threads are self-moderated because the moderators here are not moderating properly.

Don't post in threads that are self-modded if you're worried about this. People who start them usually really love to use the delete button so I wouldn't waste my time.

I just see that 8 of my posts are deleted for nothing by chmod. He didn't remove his posts from his threads since he know he will lose a lot post counts on his Bit-X signature payout. Screwing up other people's post count is ok for him, doesn't make sense.
I know he has the right to delete any post he want in his self moderate threads. But this is destroying the ability that people have to have a discussion in his threads. I will never ever post in self moderated threads ever again.

I think Bit-x stopped paying for posts in Press didn't they? It was obvious chmod was just spamming articles in there for payment and he's only recently stopped. Maybe he was pissed at not getting paid and vindictively decided to remove everything he could. I know he has the right to delete any post he want in his self moderate threads. But this is destroying the ability that people have to have a discussion in his threads. I will never ever post in self moderated threads ever again. Problem solved.

Hell, so there i have the reason about what's going on, yesterday i suffer that too, around 6 post was deleted and i was asking to myself if i did something wrong against forum rules or something like that. The deleted post come from a legendary member, i never expect it from a guy with that rank, btw in the other side, all of them was moderated threads so...
As @1Referee said, i will never post again on a self moderated again -> problem solved for me.
