Having a well thought out strategy of introduction can make a very significant difference to how they will react or respond, reguardless of any previous Fud they may have heard which u must also take into account with your strategy.

I made a thread about this asking if I should tell my family and friends about Bitcoin, but I still haven't mentioned it beyond my mom once or twice, I think it's useless because they don't understand it, they don't really get why it's huge, therefore I don't think it's a good idea until we are more advanced in time, maybe when it naturally hits mainstream level through TV.

It would be a great thing if people didn't need to install Linux on their computer to ensure some security. As the situation is now you won't get my mom involved in bitcoin. Bitcoin has to come to the people. Not the opposite. That's the big thing right now, I think. The tallest wall between now and main acceptance is that as of now if you're not a computer geek bitcoin is simply too dangerous for you.
Now I too have talked to my mom about it and she seems interested in several things regarding it, such as low fees for money transfers outside of the EU, though she doesn't understand the least bit about how it works.

@megatron: Well it's like any conversation that you might have with anyone, trying to introduce them to something new that they didn't know: if you can hold your own and get them to be interested you'll gain status points in their eyes.

@LiteCoinGuy: Take up arms and CONQUER ALL!
... Or simply tell them about advantages that you know will get them interested, and insist on said advantages? I can assure you that my mom was digging the almost-no-fees stuff about it. They're your friends and family. You kind of have to know a thing or two about what should catch their attention. And it's not like bitcoin is not offering any major advantage. You just have to make your pick.

I think he means the status of the person who is holding the coins to the ones they are mentioning it too.
It doesn't really matter what status you have when mentioning it to the public. You are not a representative of bitcoin, you are a participant and involved in the movement of what bitcoin is. Just get others involved as well so they can join this movement I would say.

the very first introduction is:

"i work in the international finance exchange industry"

then you mention it little by little, breaking it down using common words they understand
"no i dont go to 'bureau de change' at airports. i trade over the internet, like how wallstreet does it"

"the main currency i trade is an international currency the nasdaq is only just beginning to get involved in"

"the american, canadian, UK, european governments are all treating it as the next big thing in the financial industry"

showing them a few videos and news reports of government, senate, parliament talking about bitcoin to help show its serious business
thats when you start getting more into the finer details about bitcoin and how it works..

..
i think for the moment its best to talk about bitcoin as the financial investment, as oppose to a competitor to fiat currency.
as the main rebuttle you will get is.. "if its better then fiat, can i buy car fuel, toilet paper or baked beans with it"..

which currently bitcoin is not spendable in all shops.. so stick to the investment analogies for now.

Raise your status?

Frankly, I don't see why. My friends and my family know me for my unconventional and sometimes risky behavior, but I don't see why using BTC would make look like a better person. Are we smart because we use BTC? I've tried teasing women by saying I'm a BTC user and holder, but it didn't work. Better have a nice car.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Actually it's just a matter of expression. If you don't know how to properly express yourself in every day circumstances you sure as hell won't be able to explain bitcoin to anyone. Bitcoin is a pretty big subject and needs some delicate button pressing before you truly understand it.

even convicts in prison for 10 years can be creative with the truth on their C.V
"i was under contract with the state for 10 years"

even hookers can be creative
"i was self employed, selling personal assets to clients"

even a kid doing a paper round can be creative
"self employed media distributor"

its all about how you word it

Well I think what he is trying to say is that it may raise your status in your family, if you tell your family members and they enjoy using Bitcoin, maybe they will start to like you more.

Exactly. Every time I try to tell my friends and family about Bitcoin, they always give me the most retarded look. They never seem to understand such an easy concept. And when any of them do understand, they go and make some dodgy investment, lose their Bitcoins, and then blame me.

Of course it can. Knowing how to explain things in a right way can make you or brake you. I always remember the insurance salesmen. A good insurance salesman will sell you an insurance policy even when you see him approaching you and you say to yourself there is no way in the world I will buy a damn thing off you!

On the other side, bad insurance agent will make you change your mind about you even needing a policy in the first place.

Simple as that!

Why they care really if you use it or not? It would be like gloating that you have an expensive car in the driveway to your siblings but you all live under the same roof and not pay rent  Cheesy
It is pointless if this what OP means by building up your status to your family. But to your friends, sure. They would garner interest in your new found way to hold a cool wave of the future currency.

Where are they investing? You should guide them to make an safe investments as you are already using bitcoins, or just ask them to keep it safe in cold storage, that would be the best savings for the future, it is better to hold rather then loosing it by making wrong investments.

Well, if you own any decent amount of BTC now and mention it, and when in the future it goes to 10k+ per coin, they will know you are pretty wealthy and the will know you were right and a visionary, so your status will increase a lot.

And if it reaches 10k they would surely regret for the worst decision they made by not having faith in you at the primary stage, So it would definitely build your positive image in their minds and in future they would be surely trusting you even with their closed eyes, and ofcourse if you are rich it will directly contribute in raising your status.
