Seems blockchain.info incorrectly reported the txid as mine until it correctly synced to the network.
next time I'll just use the official wallet to import keys.

10 days ago, I put a private key in my signature which has got a small balance on it.

I've been posting daily, how come none of you guys managed to spot it yet?

EDIT: that was fast, right after posting this someone decided to send the BTC to a coin eater address:
https://blockchain.info/address/1GBiziLtuWAwpZiyWEpHDty5HY2qgvYRsy

That is a very clever exploit you have there.
Unfortunately it also means I must now report you as a scammer.

The private key has a negative amount (0.02 btc) which when redeemed sends this TX:
https://blockchain.info/tx/28d3cd4ed4d8378cbec3c3a067866817478b9bd4d7c8ee1b1bc094161db81e04
to this address (cool address btw):
https://blockchain.info/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2

What concerns me is that is this an exploit ?
I would say yes, you should not be able to redeem keys with negative sums.

This is nonsense and is a result of the OP not understanding how Bitcoin/BlockChain.info works, and not any kind of scam.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

Actually the confusion is a result of the way blockchain.info imports the key - it all works correctly but you may experience some weirdness until it has synced correctly with the network.

I don't see how that was a scam in the first place...

Your assumption would not constitute a scam though Tongue

Time to educate myself further on private keys, I had mistakenly assumed you could only redeem a key once, I think I got that impression from mtgox.

While I have your attention on this topic (my bad assumption), isnt there large potential for abuse by sharing keys ?
ie: I let people add my key to their wallet then setup a monitor on that address that automatically shifts any btc sent to that address ?
I guess if this is the case its a simple case of not adding strange keys to your wallet (use a test wallet).

Thanks all, sorry for the false alarm again  Grin

Yep, that can happen.

You can add strange private keys to your wallet, just don't tell people to send funds to the address associated with it if you don't trust the other people who may have the private key.
