I got bored of the standard SMF theme here and decided to change it to a dark theme. This is my favourite theme style.

You can do this by installing a browser extension called Stylish and with a custom CSS style like the one below.

Code:
body, a.nav:hover, .nav, .nav:link, .nav:visited, .windowbg, .windowbg2, .windowbg3, #preview_body, .quote {
background-color: #222 !important;
color: #EEE !important;
}

a:link, a:visited {
color: #0BF !important;
}

td, th, tr, .titlebg, .titlebg a:link, .titlebg a:visited, .titlebg2 a:link, .titlebg2 a:visited, .maintab_back a:link, .maintab_back a:visited, .maintab_active_back a:link, .maintab_active_back a:visited, div#bodyarea .maintab_active_back a:link, div#bodyarea .maintab_active_back a:visited, div#bodyarea .mirrortab_active_back a:link, div#bodyarea .mirrortab_active_back a:visited, .catbg3, tr.catbg3 td, .catbg3 a:link, .catbg3 a:visited {
color: #EEE !important;
}

.titlebg a:hover, div#bodyarea .maintab_back a:link, div#bodyarea .maintab_back a:visited, div#bodyarea .mirrortab_back a:link, div#bodyarea .mirrortab_back a:visited, .catbg a:hover, .catbg2 a:hover, .catbg3 a:hover {
color: #CCC !important;
}

.catbg, tr.catbg td, .catbg2, tr.catbg2 td, .catbg3, tr.catbg3 td, .titlebg, tr.titlebg th, tr.titlebg td, .titlebg2, tr.titlebg2 th, tr.titlebg2 td, div#bodyarea .maintab_active_back, div#bodyarea .mirrortab_active_back {
color: #EEE !important;
background: url(http://goo.gl/HPR9z) #131313 repeat-x !important;/*
border-bottom: solid 1px #123 !important;
border-top: solid 1px #111 !important;*/
}

The above code is for a dark theme. Just install Stylish extension then click "create style for bitcointalk.org" and paste the above code.

BONUS
You can change the colours to be whatever you want for a custom style if you dont like dark styles.

Hope people find this useful to give a fresh look on browsing the forum!

you can use this..
https://userstyles.org/styles/23516/midnight-surfing-global-dark-style

Use Stylish or GreaseMonkey on FF.

That changes all web pages though.. but i exempt the odd page in the settings.

WHY ?

It has a better scheme than what you posted.
A dark grey background in the text box so you don't get blinded by all the white.

Looks like this..

A lot of people seemed interested in a dark theme from time to time so I made one about an year ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=580171.0
However it didn't garner up enough interest then.

@Cyrus
I am just curious if it would have dark text box backgrounds.
That 1 area seems to be a common missed spot on various themes.
Like everything will be dark except that.. which is white in the OP's Stylish theme for example.

As a trade off i found it easier to just use a global color mod though.
Which also works better than changing color options in Chrome or FF.

Strange how we all complain the same but of both white or black themes LOL
We all say it's hard on the eyes.

Not bad at all, that is better with a lighter shade of white for the text.

I am using this chrome extension.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dark-reader/eimadpbcbfnmbkopoojfekhnkhdbieeh

It is called "Dark Reader". Its file size is less than 1 MB. Follow the link above and you will see many 5 stars rating.

It is very easy to use and customizes. No need to messing with CSS codes. Just try it.

You can always uninstall if you do not like.

Hope this help.

Yes in mobile phones you can also use dark theme. Just use UC Browser to change your theme. I have this one.
