Notwithstanding the macro point re personal assets you are making, the famous Greek swimming pool survey always makes me laugh

I read about that in a german online journal today as well.
The Troika is forcing greek government to fulfill this with beginning of january 2016.
See this as a trial balloon. It will not take long and all these assets will get confiscated when shit hits the fan!

This won't go well for Greeks... There will always be undeclared money under the mattress that many will "forget". The government is imposing even bigger control... Now is definitely the time for a switch to Bitcoin.

Yea, you cannot hide jewels and gold. But you can hide Bitcoin.

Our government did a similar thing some years ago... They said: "Do not worry nothing will happen" and... BOOM!

You know how it ends.  Sad

It's way easier to hide a private key for Bitcoin than it is to hide jewelry and precious metals.  Wink

It sounds unreal, but this might just happen in the future. This was done with regulations in regards to unlicensed firearms in many countries and people still had these unlicensed

weapons. Many Greek people avoided paying taxes for years, why would they adhere to this?

Good luck to Greek government with that, they was not able to even make Greeks pay regular taxes since Minoan and Mycenaean kings. They needed space technology to find who have swimming pool there i guess they will need alien tech to find out what Greeks hide under the mattress.

So this is not Greek government's idea. The tyranny is the Troika, or the Germany government.

What are they going to do, search everyone's house looking for gold jewelry with metal detectors and try to calculate if anything they find is worth more than 15,000 euros? If they bring this new rule in it will be to get newspaper headlines rather than to achieve anything.

Well I am not sure why this is a surprise, the Greek government was taxing people based on pools in their back yards, this is just a similar sort of taxation.

Of course the Greek government can take away individual's wealth, or they can tax them out of it to attempt to save their country. The government just needs to know how much they will be able to tax.

I would say that yes Bitcoin can help save capital in Greece, but there's no way to tell what will happen in the future of the Greek government is that desperate for money.

Greece is down the gutter. There is no legitimate viable option and I can't figure out how they are going to get out of this. There is no reason why anyone should be required to disclose all physical assets worth a certain value outside of a bank. Talk about making a logbook.

Doesn't anyone know it's the same thing everywhere, including the US? If you go to a bank with $15,000 in cash, explaining to the bank teller you had the money hidden under your mattress, he will instantly report your suspicious behavior to the police because of AML and KYC regulations.

All your expensive goods are registered (cars, real estate) and if you have expensive jewellery, or gold, you won't be able to sell it without some kind of proof of purchase...

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Yep unfortunately that is the world we are going into.

That is why bitcoin is so important to have privacy.
It's kind of disgusting to see how there are so many restrictions put in place in the name of security that really don't mean anything in reality, and were only conceptualized on paper and immediately assumed that they would work.

Maybe one day we'll have the capacity to sell whatever without having to have an infinite array of paperwork behind us, but I have a feeling that day is really far away.

Thats one thing, but this one is serious.

Putting all your assets you own into a govenrment database, and when they demand it from you to pay for the debt that they took on your behalf, without your permission. The nature of the massive debt-fiat ponzi scheme, as we know it.

They have collateralized all assets in their country, and will steal it from them and hand them over to the banks, after the debt is defaulted. A massive robbery of the citizens assets will come.

Next step: you need to put in a government database how many times you inhale, and ask for a government permit to breath.

This is Orwellian tyrrany coming, globally.

Greeks better learn about bitcoin fast or they can say bye-bye to their capital.

You can still buy bitcoin with your credit card.

They dont allow high sum transactions, or withdrawing in cash. But if you buy with credit card it should be fine.

in Greece there is too much black money and that is what the goverment hope to discover.

The oligarchs have moved all that black money out of Greece many years ago, with the tacit understanding from the PASOK and the New Democracy supporters. All that wealth is now lying in the bank accounts and lockers of Geneva and London. It is almost impossible to bring this money back, as the oligarchs enjoy a great deal of support from the British and Swiss banks.
