I am not a fanboy here but the block chain download had gone on for many days.  I had given up on bitcoin but decided later to try Electrum.  Does anyone use Electrum here?  Who knows the author of Electrum?
Coinsbank: Left money in their costodial wallet for my signature.  Then they kept the money.

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

I use MultiBit but Electrum is good too.
