I have some old hardware lying around. I am considering mining solo for the fun of it. Anyone has luck so far? What coins did you mine? Smiley

You could look at altcoin mining profitability charts to find the most profitable coin to mine with your equipment.

http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency

If you want to speculate you could mine something unprofitable and hope it goes up in price. I doubt earthcoin was worth mining a year ago, but you would have made a profit if you held them until now.

Thank you. Which exchanges and pools support most altcoins?

Search the sub-forum "Mining"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0
Try keywords "Solo Mining" maybe Wink

I have not done it in years now and only did during a coin launch or not long after a new launch.
Over time it usually becomes so hard to find a block on your own it's pointless to try.
Just join a pool.

I was wondering the same today when  my S5 finally can't handle the new bitcoin difficulty of 79..
Looking at Coinwarz for the most profitable you see earth coin namecoin and peercoin. Then again doesn't a multipool do that already by using the most profitable coin? Should beable to make .001 to .002 a day with a multipool. Look at the stats here http://poolpicker.eu/table?algo=sha-256

I solo mined peercoin for a week and got paid in the second week 3 coins.

I'll try again because the difficulty of bitcoin has got me down. Will turn off my S1 today and set on a weekend timer. as for the S5 maybe night time timer on a multipool.

Can't wait to halve bitcoin and have it struggle like litecoin did up until now.

Many people solo mine many coins.

Don't listen to the fools who say otherwise.  It's more enjoyable as well to mine on your own and not a pool.

It could be worth to try solomining MachineCoin [MAC]: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=434190.0
Of course, there is no exchange it’s just for fun.

Solo mining could work during and for a short time after launch, for some less known/popular coins and for dying coins. Probably joining a pool would be better option for currently mainstream coins.

If you are considering CPU-mining, CryptoNote currencies are great for solo mining in their early days just after the launch. Until botnets arrive.

There are a few coins you can solo mine. One of the coins is called Credits. It is in active development and is the only Proof of Deposit combined with PoW. The hash rate is just 3.7GH/s.

not viable to solo mine currently existing coins..
keep going and be active on forums and check out for the new upcoming coins.. mine it at the start.. save it till it gets on an exchange and just sell it all since even new coins dont have much potential these days.. there are like hundereds of them.. waste

That is the only way to make good profit from mining now. But that action requires patience and you have to be an expert in mining.
